    Hey! So there it is!

And now for something completely different. This is not at all funny, not really weird and anything but cool, yet somehow impressive. (And the music is depressing)

Wanted to ask if this is based on facts and where the author might have found them, but that's a whole new thread, I guess.

I assume the numbers* come from the federal statistics, which are public (I haven't checked the references listed at the end of the video, but I'd expect they got them there). Pretty much every country collects and publishes figures on the economy, people, etc. on a regular basis, so this info is readily available to anyone wanting to dig into it. But yea, the rich have been getting richer and the poor have been getting poorer... it's been that way for quite some time now. Not to turn this into a AoDA thread but if this trend continues, I think it's rather obvious that it'll end in blood once a large enough share of the population slides into inescapable poverty. The situation is largely identical in all typical modern capitalist systems so once the dominos start to fall, they won't stop for quite a while. Here in Europe, so many rights that people have fought for for decades have been eroded or minimized into virtual nothingness in the name of the bad economy that it's pushed huge segments of the population previously on the edge of poverty now well into it - especially for those who can't find jobs. We're conditioned to tolerate such downturns peacefully for a time, but I'm sure that people will at some point realize that the situation will not change from the top down unless they force it to change from the bottom up. Just like the working class of old has had to fight tooth and claw for every right that we've taken for granted for decades (at least in Europe), so will the hordes of the poor - simply to survive.

    * Funny thing about numbers and statistics is the fact that everyone seems to be able to interpret them in a way that best suits them, so I'm sure that you won't find many rich folks who'll agree with them as presented here. As usual, the truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

    I guess you're right!
Now let's get less serious again. :D

There's this guy here in Holland that's gotten himself quite a name. Actually people don't know his name (Uriah Arnhem), but most recognize him from some rather funny commercials. He made some cool music and WRONG video clips as one of The Scotty Pippens. too. And now he's trashing Kanye:

Actually, to get serious again, the major problem with that video (and others like it) is that they keep interchangeably using the terms "Wealth" and "Income" and they mean two totally separate things.

You can be wealthy and have no income (a multimillionaire that does nothing but live off of his checking account. In a chart of wealth he will be on the far right. In a chart of income he would be on the far left with the unemployed.

You can have a decent income and no wealth. This is very common and where charts like the ones in the video can very easily distort the truth. If you buy a house for $300K and have a mortgage on it of $295K then your wealth is $5K which is quite small. However to support the payments on the house you probably have a high income.

If given the choice I would always pick great wealth over great income, (and many times one leads to the other), but many people live a great life without generating much in the way of wealth.

I had to watch the original video in order to understand what the heck was happening in your video Snook. I think I may be scarred for life . . .
