'You scored 92% Beginner, 92% Intermediate, 80% Advanced, and 66% Expert!
You have an extremely good understanding of beginner, intermediate, and advanced level commonly confused English words, getting at least 75% of each of these three levels' questions correct. This is an exceptional score. Remember, these are commonly confused English words, which means most people don't use them properly. You got an extremely respectable score.'

I'm surprised since my only practice is what I write/read here and that my last class of English was 15 years ago.
I don't know which answers were wrong tho.

You scored 85% Beginner, 100% Intermediate, 93% Advanced, and 93% Expert!
You did so extremely well, even I can't find a word to describe your excellence! You have the uncommon intelligence necessary to understand things that most people don't. You have an extensive vocabulary, and you're not afraid to use it properly! Way to go!
Thank you so much for taking my test. I hope you enjoyed it!

    Yay, me is clever

What? I never said anything about principles.

Unless we both took a different test, it's ensure and insure. Insure is correct because you're talking about car insurance.

    This is... somewhat surprising.

So apparently I can't handle a basic level, but I'm great at everything else. I didn't check, but I probably cocked up a "me/I" question. Useful, considering I work in policy and have to use that language all the time.

"I don't need my high school diploma any more! I am so smart! S-M-R-T!"

Still, you'd hope that most native English speakers could get close to 100 on at least one category if they had a basic education. I'd be extremely worried if I hadn't. This test includes a few grammatical questions which can trip up people who were never taught grammar outside of German classes.

NonSequitur, maybe in other English speaking countries what you say is true but here in the USA?

As a graduate of a US Public high school and as a teacher in a private school the chances of actually learning correct English in Public School are pretty slim. That of course is my rather negative opinion and there are exceptions. The only thing I learned in school was math. The rest I learned at home.

I have to disagree, Nakia. I went to public school and received a very good all-around education, including grammar. Admittedly, that was over 20 years ago, and I can't speak about today's schools as my son is only going into second grade.

Yeah, I was taught all of that grammar (and more) at school, but all of the graduates who I see coming out of school these days can barely use apostrophes properly and clearly have not been taught these basics. It's one of my big bugbears and I feel sorry for my young son's future school teachers because I'll be ripping into them big-time if they don't teach him these fundamentals. :grr:

I already have a composition book for my three year old, and we work in it about 3-4 times a week. Once we fill the first one with the basics of letters and words, we will move on and continue to fill more of them with more words, sentences, paragraphs, and finally, more complex writings. I will save them so that we can track the development of her writing, spelling, vocabulary, and grammatical skills. Next year, we can start my two year old.

If my girls fail in their language skills, (which they won't) it will be my failure as well. I intend to make their education a collective project, and I will remain fully engaged in their educational development. I refuse to be one of those bitter parents, who sits around, pushing all the blame on the "public schools" while I sit around and watch TV.

Chandos, I will be doing the same as you, but I'm still not going silently endure it if his teachers don't pull their weight as well. One of my friends has a 6 year old kid at school and on Fridays they have 'Fantastic Friday' where the kids pretty much do whatever they want because "play helps them learn"...........

You scored 71% Beginner, 92% Intermediate, 86% Advanced, and 73% Expert!

You have a good understanding of intermediate and advanced commonly confused English words, getting at least 75% of the intermediate and advanced level questions correct. The puzzling part of your test result is the fact that you only answered 75% or less correct in the beginner section. Fascinating.

What a bloody beginner I am.

    Inter-advanced. Aha.

    @Rastor

    the key says:
"The correct answer is assure / insure."
Insure wasn't a problem, but I thought of ensure in the sense of guarantee. Oh well.

You scored 85% Beginner, 92% Intermediate, 100% Advanced, and 60% Expert!

But I couldn't truthfully answere the age category - I was born in 1989, the drop down list only exteneded to 1988.

interestingly I said the following on how I compared to other people of my age (1985 for the purposes of the exercise) and gender (male)
You scored higher than 16% on Beginner
You scored higher than 30% on Intermediate
You scored higher than 88% on Advanced
You scored higher than 17% on Expert

Ow. 88% on advanced isn't bad though.

Oh, sorry. I thought you were talking about a choice between assure and insure.

There you go. That should explain the problem.

Part of the problem with public schools is the quality of the teachers. Far too many of the teachers that I know are idiots, pedophiles, or alcoholics, or a combination of all three. In fact, one of the public schools in this area has a teacher who frequently takes his (under-aged) students to a local bar and sneaks them beer. I am not condemning all public schools, but my faith in our teacher selection process has been seriously shaken.

I can pretty much guarantee that I am going to send my kids to a private school and will take an active role in their education.
