Derek stifled a laugh.

 

"Rainette iss right. Not a sspider. Mind iss very jumbled too. Confusing." Ssmalass swung his body looking at the various beings and flicking his tongue.

 

"His name is Spider. Like mine is Derek."

 

Nicolas was listening to the conversations of the others. But just then he noticed that we had been near the exit of the forest the entire time. He ran towards the light. Just as he thought he was finally out a huge demonous monster crossed his path and threw him into the nearest tree with a most terrible crack. He was knocked unconscious.

 

Derek saw in the corner of his eye Nicolas running. He turned just in time to see Nicolas get knocked against a tree, and a huge demon descending on him.

"NNOOO!!" Derek yelled, the earth shaking as it had already done once today. Derek called upon the power of nature, as he informed the others.

But nature did not respond.

** Derek Windfollow, you have called on us too many times before. We cannot grant you what you wish. We have more pressing matters to deal with at this time. **

Derek was shocked. That had never happened to any Druid of this Forest. Derek just stood, frozen and unmoving , as the others ran past him to Nicolas's aid.

 

The monster was a huge spider like monster. (no relasion to spider) His venom is highly acidic and will burn through most metal. He is quite strong and extremely fast.

 

Spider is about to say something at this outburst but the arrival of the creature captures his attention. Wiping some sweat off his brow with his apron, Spider begins togesture, allowing another spell to form over his being, again becoming absorbed.

He then trots back abit, so that he is further away from the monster than anyone else, places the axe on the ground, sits down and digs around his clothes, finally pulling out a scrap of paper and a pencil. He then begins to draw, every now and then looking up and mumbling to himself before burying his head back in the book

 

Rainette couldn't believe his eyes. First a spider that wasn't really a spider, then a spider that was a mountain. He jumped up into a tree. The mountain spider was springing at them and attacking. He made sure his fingers and toes had lots of sticky muscous on them, and when the mountain spider came near his tree, he lunged and landed on its head, behind its many eyes.

Holding on tight with his two feet and left hand, he took his unicorn leg bone club in his right and started smashing the mountain spider's eyes with the club. Each time it connected, a strange white light explosion flashed. The small eyes took three or four hits to totally smash, the larger eyes took many more.

A leg came up to try and knock Rainette off the mountain spider's head, but he quickly moved away to another position and started smashing small eyes again.

 

Ssmalass saw the monster spider attacking Nicolas, Rainette leaping to attack the spider. He smashed through the undergrowth, sword held out like a spear. He ran it into the creature's body. A strange, ugly, ichor poured out. The spider turned towards him. He spat at it, a glob of green mucus landed on the spider's face causing it to move back a little.

Using the sword as a spear he trust it into the front of the spider.

 

At this moment in the battle, Spider looks up at the scene

"Ah ... snake fight snake! Spider is pleased! You go kill the snake snake! Spider cheers for the talking snake! Yes Spider does! Well done! You have Spider's approval! Not that it matters to you probably but at least you have approval eh? Now what? Um ... yeah! Just hold that position so I may draw! Yep thats good! Oh! Sword in other snake is good idea as well! Just hold that position!"

 

As Rainette battered at the spider's eyes Ssmalass kept spearing it with the sword. It lunged at him then tried to move away shaking itself to get rid of the thing on its back. Ssmalass switched to trying to hack off its legs. He managed to sever one leg causing the spider to wobble.

Ssmalass's tail was thrashing and throwing up dirt and leaves.

Nicolas lay unconscious and Derek seemed frozen. All Ssmalass could think to do was to keep hacking at the huge spider.

 

Rainette had smashed all the eyes on this side of the spider's head. He put his club back in his harness and prepared to jump to the other side of its head. In midair a leg whipped up and smacked him into a huge oak tree. Another clawed leg followed after and hit him directly in the chest, but it slipped off the green dragon scale he was wearing and went all the way through the tree. The mountain spider seemed to be stuck for a moment with one leg and claw all the way through the huge oak. Rainette coughed up a bunch of blood, luckily his ribs were very flexible, but something was definitely wrong with his lungs. He hopped behind Ssmalass towards Derek and Nicolas.

"Let's get away now!" he coughed.

 

Nicolas looked up for a moment and saw the spider swinging wildly before slipping into blackness once again.

 

Derek, frozen and unmoving, was smashed in the back with a spider leg. He fell to the ground and didn't move.

 

Nicolas regained consciousness again. He saw the spider about to crush Derek. Nicolas ran over and jumped in the way of the huge claw coming down above Derek. Nicolas felt the claw enter him through his back and come out through his stomach and chest. The immense pain soon hit him. The spider pinned him against a tree. The spiders claw ripped off and left Nicolas hanging like an Christmas ornament. The blood dripped down the black claw. As he coughed up blood he felt tears run down his face. He had to fight to stay conscious or he knew he would probably die. He was amazed he wasn’t dead in the first place. He then saw the spider trying to attack Derek again. He then without warning exploded in rage. He tore the claw out of his chest and ran over to the spider. He still had the bone from which he created his water blades from. He quickly accumulated enough and slashed the air with the newly formed sword. With that the spiders head was ripped apart. Nicolas quickly saved Derek’s unmoving body from the spiders huge falling corpse and collapsed to the ground in a puddle of his own blood.

 

Ssmalass stared with dismay at Derek and Nicolas. Derek was the first creature who had ever been friendly to him. Swinging round he hissed at Spider.

"Sspider you help Derek and Nicolass. I know you can." Ssmalass towered over Spider holding the ichor smeared sword in his hands. He had an aura of determination and even menace. The air around him seemed to shimmer and crackle.

"You help now!"

 

Rainette coughed up some more blood. He too ran over to Nicolas and put both his hands over the enormous hole in the little boy's body. When he got small cuts on himself, he could patch them up with some of the sticky mucus from his finger and toe pads. But that would do nothing to heal such major trauma as the boy was afflicted with.

None-the-less, he held his hands over the largest area of blood, watching helplessly as his young friend's life spilled out onto the forest floor.

 

"But SPider hasn't finished Spider's drawing of mass design!!! ARGH! Spider's work is not finished and must be done later! Spider hates that!"

With that Spider picks himself up off the ground and proceeds over to the beings called Derek and Nicolas. Seeing that Nicolas is being stuffed with mucus, the man can't help but grimace

"What! You give dying man cheese from foot! You disgusting! You want him to live or die hmm? You sure is helping him die by giving him that green ick!"

Bending down, Spider gestures and mutters syllables of a divine nature. Placing his hands on the most greivious of wounds, Spider's hands become engulfed in blue energy which shoot into Nicolas's body. Immediately the wounds start to close and the skin knits itself back together. This blue energy then engulfs the rest of Nicolas's body and continues to do the same. Within a few moments the blue energy fades and all that remains in terms of wounds on Nicolas's body are just a few bumps and scraps

Spider then begins to move over to Derek and repeats the same gesture. However instead of leaving only a few bumps and scraps, Derek seems to be completely healed, if not mobile

"Weeeeeeell Seems that this guy not as badly hurt as er ... Nikolandis? ah whatever, So my healing hands which care good for them critical wounds that they have suffered has worked well! Bless Spider yes for Spider's timely intervention! But this man that doesn't move ... maybe he is affected by something else hmm?"

With this, Spider turns Derek around and presses an ear against his forearm, tapping his belly and then his ear

"Yes ... this man is paralysed! Yes. Spdier has the right powers for this .. used to help alot see when Seige weapon construction goes wrong and you get hit in the back stopping you from moving, always have one handy!"

Placing a hand on Derek's chest, Spider begins to count backwards from 10, the fingers on his other hand doing random gestures. On reaching '0', Spider then muters to himself "Boom" before a green arua begins to surround Derek. As the Aura comes into full Strength and then fades, it seems that the muscles within his body unknot and loosen back to their normal state.

"See Spider is right. It has been a long time since Spider was not right and the last time that was was when Spider was calculating where the Seige Weapons would hit ... and instead of flattening the enemy army, they flatten our own. Ah well ..."

The human then stands up and looks to Ssmalass and smiles

"There we go, Spider has helped your friends, maybe they become Spider's friends too? Is anyone else hurt? Spider has many spells to help people should they be hurt? But yes, snake person, there is no need to try to menace Spider. In fact, most of that is pointless as Spider has seen many horrers and scary things in his time, it does in deed take a lot to scare Spider. If Spider was to be intimidated all the time, Spider would have run away yes, from everything even that Mountain Goat you killed, so Spider asks you to ask again next time yes? Say ... Whats your name? Spider's name is Spider"

 

"Thank you, Spider. I am Ssmalass. I don't know much about talking to people and you sseem very sstrange to me. I think Rainette is hurt inside. He iss coughing up blood. Maybe you could help him? Pleasse."

Ssmalass looks around. "I don't think we sshould sstay here. Maybe we can put Derek and Nicolass on the boat and move down the river. The ocean iss very near."

 

Rainette watched his friends bodies put themself back together with Spider's green and blue lights in amazement. He had never seen anything like that before in his life. He coughed up some more blood.

"Yes, Spider, something is wrong with my lungs. Please put some blue light in them to, Spider, please."
