There still are a few good new bands but they don't get that much airplay....

 

That's what I like about 'indie' radio stations such as our Triple J. Sure, it's run by the ABC which, here, is purely government-funded, but they're actually getting out there and 'discovering' new unsigned talents ans helping them get heard by playing their stuff on the radio and even going so far as to release CD's with material from the artists they do unearth (funny then that each CD is called Unearthed Vol. X).

As for everything else said so far, the only thing I feel qualified to say is that the only type of music I just can't listen to much is most of the recent rap that I've been hearing - too much recycling of the 'blunts and b*tches' material that was done to death by just about every rapper through the 80's and 90's if not before. Granted there's Eminem/D12 steering away from that abit and that's good, but unfortunately most of the rap I hear lately is all B&B mentality.
From what little I HAVE heard of Tupac and Dr Dre, the former certainly seemed to be bringing rap into a new frame of thinking and reflecting on how people need to change their way of thinking and the latter also seems to be less and less about the B&B trash, though I'm not really that aware of his more recent material because most of what I've heard on radio and TV involving Dre is artists he's producing.

Anyway, most of that is probably un-thought-out drivel but then I don't tend to intellectualise music when I hear it, I emotionalise it. If it hits an emotional key for me then it can't be all bad. Unless of course it's Britney et al or boy abnd rubbish, they're all strictly production line these days anyway. Much like Stock, Aitken and Waterman in the 80's.
