o_O OMG; this is bugging me - I've seen it YEARS ago on the late show one wee morning!

I didn't even recognize Jackie as someone famous at the time...

Bah! this is really bugging me. I've been staring at this reply window for fifteen minutes, trying to recall the name; even with the hints given (and I remember the 'priest and beggar' scene too!)

Curse my faulty hippocampus for not storing proper names of people and things (like movies)! :bang:

The only Jackie Chan movie I remember before the "Drunken Master" was "Snake In the Eagle's Shadow". Did that ring the bell?

    Edit:
After going back to your clues, I'm now positive I got the right answer. :D

Since I might once again have a long leave of absence, I might as well leave you with a simple one.

    Scene:
Some guy with a name that sounded like how he felt about a certain sport (shame is the feeling) and a predatory bird, held ball for a soccer player. Soccer player kicks the ball over and between the bars and won the game. Then he (soccer player) got beaten by cop. And the annoucer said something like "Don't do something great if you can't handle the congratulations."

That should be easy enough for anybody to confirm.

Soccer or American football? Now ain't that a beautiful question? I'll maintain the ball being held by this "shame-bird" guy and a soccer player kicked the ball over and between bars and won the game, let's not forget the cop and throw in a convict, a preacher, and a few exotic dancer-cheerleaders into the confusion.

If you know the movie, you'd love the clues.

Right after a Jackie Chan post, I would have to say Shaolin Soccer.

    Nope, not Shaolin Soccer.

It's a Hollywood movie, probably last year. A comedy about underdogs and second chances. That's all I can give as I'll be going off-line and won't be back for a number of days. I'm gonna be swamped with work but I WILL SURVIVE!!!

The clues sounds like The Replacements to me but that film is five years old so I guess it must be something else.

A martial artist administers a nerve strike and then moves to position his sword so that the paralyzed victim will fall upon it. However, the victim turns out to be immune to the nerve strike and turns the table by sucker punching the martial artist.

How about another hint then? There are way too many martial art movies out there too randomly guess.
