    The palm tree sounds like the end of "Mr Roberts" or possibly also in the sequal "Ensign Pulver". I do not remember the other scene so I am not sure which one.

    Woman takes man to a grand hotel. Tells man to take an elevator while she takes another elevator on the opposite site of the corridor. Then both randomly press a number, which actually turned out to be of the same floor... but they didn't see each other.

    A camera slowly zooms from the ceiling of a large dance hall towards the band. At first it looks like it's centering on the singer but then swerves towards the drummer man. It zooms further, until his eyes fill the screen. Then he starts blinking...

    The movie you are talking about is Light of Day, Kuemper, but that's not directed by one of the greatest directors in the world. One of the greatest directors would have to be Scorsese, Spielberg, Kubrick, Welles, Eastwood, Hitchcock or Polanski in my opinion. As a clue, are one of these right?
