The dragon sure seems to gain power and influence these days. But they've got problems of their own, the transition from communism to hardcore (state?) capitalism doesn't look that easy imo.

India's next door and has similar advantages in terms of population and cheap labour force, it's just a matter of time before they catch up.

Russia has been struck quite a blow, almost back to the rank of third-world like raw material producing nation. While the country still boasts an impressive military force, its borders are back to those of 1600 or so. It will recover eventually, but superpower? Likely not that soon.

The EU already has an economical might comparable to that of the US, but it lacks coherence big time, so unless a capable governing body comes to life, it will remain an aging continent with too much different languages per square kilometer.

Brazil could very well become a first class power within short time. A united South American continent might very well be tomorrow's powerhouse.

Africa, just sadly no. The whole continent has been shred to pieces during centuries, and the effects are still lasting. Provided countless issues are settled and great powers stop meddling, countries like Nigeria, South Africa or Congo could be key powers in the future, or at least I hope so.

Middle-East, who knows? Perhaps Iran will turn out okay.

And what's more than that, the leaders of the diverse countries, don't even have complete control of their own territory. Every country has at least one rebel faction operating in some part of the country. Africans aren't exactly up to dominate the world economy, it's more likely that they'll be exploited by the Europeans and the Americans for another century or two.

China could be the next superpower, but they got get rid of those crusty old coots in Beijing that keep the people down. As long as they are a communist state, China isn't going anywhere. You can't build an empire on espionage alone.

As far as Europe concerns.... you can forget about that. The EU is bound to fail. Europeans simply don't trust eachother enough to become a succesfull superpower, there's too much rivalry here, everyone wants to be in charge. It's more likely that the EU crumbles and will return to how things were before the €, which has all my blessings btw.

Russia had it's moment, and they couldn't keep the pace up. They are broke, flatbroke. We won't be hearing anything from them in the near future.

I'd say America IS and WILL be the one and only militairy AND economical superpower for the next few centuries, which is fine with me.
