    Valer,

Your XP tactic will remain effective in all later chapters. Quest XP is fixed so it is the same whether you are 1st or 20th level. Thus, your tactic of reaping all the combat awards first, then completing the quests for the quest XP will always be viable. Even if your Rogue no longer receives a bonus starting at 8th level, you will still get more XP from fights if you are a 9th level Rogue than if you are an 11th level Rogue. Consequently, delaying the Quest XP as long as possible will still benefit you as you stay at a lower level without the Quest XP and thus rake in more combat XP.

If you are going to add fighter levels to your Rogue build (Fighter 4 / Rogue X is a very good combination), then the time to add the Fighter levels is after you hit Rogue 4, not after you hit Rogue 8. The reason is that at Rogue 4 you get a bonus of two effective levels. Thus, as a Rogue 4 you are getting the same combat XP as a Fighter 2. At Rogue 4 / Fighter 4 you will be getting the same combat XP as a Fighter 6 -- you will have "locked in" the 2 effective level bonus of the Rogue 4 for 4 additional levels. You will, consequently, reach Rogue 4 / Fighter 4 faster than if you had simply gone Rogue 8!

If you want to multiclass, the way to do it is to find the "sweet spot" for each class and stay there while you level up in your other classes.

    The "sweet spots" are:

    Wizard/Sorcerer/Cleric/Druid: 5th level (3 lvl bonus)
Monk: 5th level (2 level bonus)
    Rogue/Bard: 4th level (2 level bonus)

For example, let us say I want to have a Rogue -Wizard multiclass. The best way to do that would be to level Wizard up to 5th level (properly played, a wizard can leave the Academy at 4th level). At that point level up to whatever level of Rogue I desire to have in the build and only then advance the Wizard levels again.

Fascinating - but far too complicated to impact my levelling decisions.

Just finished Chapter One and have reached character level 8 - Rogue 5 / Ranger 2 / Shadowdancer 1
