This is a good read, Harbourboy. I'm looking forward to see how you'll manage the warrens. Who'll be the next addition?

    Day 25:

The party returned wearily to Targos and were warmly greeted by the soldiers there and received a reward from Shawford Crale for completing the mission to Shaengarne Bridge. There was no time for much rest though, for Dulbrec told them that it was imperative that they seek out the source of the goblin raids.

So, it was off to find the Goblin Horde Fortress. Following Dulbrec's map, they encountered Elannia, whose boyfriend, Branston had been captured by the goblins. Nakia set out to carefully scout the surrounding area. What she found, though, was no goblin, but a wild eyed human.

"Who are you?" she asked, "And what are you doing out here? Are you in league with the goblins?"

The stranger replied, "Those backward idiots? Why would I be in league with such technological ignoramuses?"

    "Huh?" said Nakia, puzzled.

"My name is Disciple of the Watch, and I am on a never ending quest for knowledge, new technology, and independent metal. Heavy metal music, that is."

"Oh, are you a bard then?" asked Nakia.

"Not really. I am a Lorekeeper of Oghma."

"Ooh, a cleric then? We could sure use your help in our battle against the goblins."

"Well, I sure do like smashing goblins. It's hard work finding new products out here with those morons running around all over the place. Maybe I will join you for a while. But don't expect me to do any healing."

"What's the point of a cleric who doesn't do healing?" asked Harbourboy suspiciously.

"You can talk, Druidboy." responded Disciple, "Look at you, adventuring out here with such outdated gear. You need to get with the times, man. You need me to help you identify new products and determine whether they are suitable for you."

Hehe. It's interesting to see that despite our differences and arguments, you decided to include me, Harbs.

You did a great job at impersonating me - I like it, really. I'm looking foward to read about the rest of the adventures. I sound like an evil bastard (which I am, nontheless), won't there be some... clashes with the good-aligned members of the party (*cough*chev*cough*)?

*EDIT* On second thought, if there's any two-handed blunts in IWD2 (I can't remember), make it happen. Failing that, a nice, shiny warhammer would be fine.

Wow, a left-field inclusion, but props to HB for using inventiveness. :thumb: And I see you're still eschewing a pure tank, HB. Unless Barmy Army is going to put in an appearance as a Barbarian/Fighter at some point, of course. ;)

Disciple - everyone else in the party is good aligned! You're neutral evil. The only two handed blunt weapon is a quarterstaff. Never had a character using those so this might a good chance. DotW is actually the highest STR (unbuffed) character in the party so would be the right one to use a two handed weapon. We'll see how it goes.

Magpie - no tanks at all (no characters with high STR or high CON) and no specialist arcane casters either. Out of 25 levels so far, only one level of arcane magic. This party is so unbalanced, it has 4 characters who can cast Cure Light Wounds, and none who can cast Haste. I'm really having to come up with new tactics for this mob.

    Day 31:

Well, the party has now entered the Horde Fortress. The battle to get there was pretty hairy stuff, with those Orc Shamans constantly summoning new enemies with those cursed war drums (enemies that unerringly seemed to show up right next to the most vulnerable party members). This sort of never ending outdoor battle is what Call Lightning was made for, but Rallymama's newly acquired ability to call undead warriors to her aid was invaluable for a party desperately short of hard hitting melee veterans.

Disciple of the Watch was of little assistance in that regard, although he has proven to surprisingly knowledgeable, especially about mysterious magic items that Nakia has picked up.

"Ah, you see, what you have in your hand there is your standard "Returning Frost Dart". It's a reliable little weapon, guaranteed to always come back to your hand. Doesn't pack much of a punch, though. If you're after the real deal in icy darts, I've heard you can't go past "Glacial Darts +5". Get hold of some of those babies, and I'll field test them for, and let you know whether they're worth it or not."

    I definitively forsee clashes ahead.

Hehe. Mocking me, are you, Harbs? It's all in the name of good fun, so I don't mind.

Really? How about dual-wielding blunt weapons? Two flails, two maces or two warhammers?

But yeah, shots would be nice. I'm curious to see the portrait you gave me.

Well, Disciple of the Watch theoretically*could* dual wield blunt weapons, *but* given that he is the highest STR character, plus he has good INT (all that knowledge), WIS (he IS a cleric), and CHA (for all those witty comebacks when arguing with Chevalier and Harbourboy), I'll give you one guess as to how good his DEX is..... No chance of ever taking Ambidexterity or Two Weapon Fighting. Two flails? I suspect he'd be more likely to collect himself in the head than actually connect with an orc.

I'll try and remember to take a screenshot of something interesting if I can.

Hmm, I see. Well, give me a blunt of your choice, and if you feel like it add a shield as well.

    Day 33:

The party is now deep in the heart of the horde fortress but seems no closer to finding the force behind the goblin invasions. The battles are becoming increasingly difficult. Eventually, Disciple of the Watch could not contain his annoyance.

"You goody good pansies are so lame. You're never going to get anywhere unless you get a bit more ANGRY when you're in a fight! It's up to me to think of something to get you all fired up."

He then rummaged around in his pack and pulled out an odd-looking stringed instrument.

"Here. Get a load of this" he said, before proceeding to play it loudly, in what they soon realised was supposed to be music.

"Hmm, I'm not sure I approve of those violent lyrics" said Chevalier shaking his head.

Harbourboy had his hands over his ears.

"Lyrics?! What lyrics? All I can hear is noise!"

Nakia started jumping up and down.

"Grrr! I do feel a bit angrier! I really feel like hitting something hard!"

"Yeah. I feel like hitting Disciple of the Watch" agreed Rallymama, pulling out her mace.

"OK. OK." shouted Harbourboy waving his hands, "I get the idea. I can see that your noise could be of some use to us. But, under no circumstances are you to play that thing unless we are actually going into battle."

"But how will I get better, if I don't practise? Regularly."

And that was how Disciple of the Watch began his training in Oghma's other discipline - that of the Bard.

Haha, I was sure there would be clashes along the way. It's comforting to see I was right.

A bard? Interesting choice, Harbs. I especially like the heavy metal music - hehe, my lute is an electric guitar!

    Day 34:

The party has now emerged from the warrens below the Fortress and is dealing with the various hordes loitering around outside. This party has real issues when surrounded, partly due to the terrible armour class of some of the party members (see below). This arises partly because Nakia is the only one with any Dexterity and partly because we are yet to find many powerful defensive items. The party still relies heavily on extensive buffing prior to battles (Barkskin, Stoneskin, Cat’s Grace, Magic Circle against Evil), combined with lots of running away whenever one person gets targeted by too many enemies. Rallymama’s Animate Dead is still vital for providing a shield for this fragile party.

    Current status (Unbuffed Armour Class):

Harbourboy 23 (wearing Mail of Life)
Nakia 19 (wearing Leather Armour +1)
    Rallymama 18 (wearing Chain Mail)
Chevalier 15 (wearing Studded Leather Armour of Shield)
Disciple of the Watch 15 (wearing Chain Mail)

Well, at last count Nakia had 5 Rogue levels, so should have a 3d6 Sneak Attack bonus. The biggest difficulty might actually using Sneak Attacks in IWD2; it's so much more irksome to set up than in NWN or (I found) than in the original IWD, curiously.

Keep up the good work HB! Out of curiosity, is this it for your party or will you be adding a 6th member to supplement your party of five?

Nakia has 3d6 sneak attack which is enough to kill Goblin Sorcerers outright when she sneaks up on them. Otherwise, this actually becomes her only way of damaging some opponents because we are starting to encounter tougher foes who have damage resistance which can nullify the normal damage from a 1d4 dagger or bullet. She might need to find a short sword soon to increase her melee damage potential.

Magpie, you never can tell who you are going to meet in the wilderness.

    Day 36:

The party has located the forces behind the attacks on Targos. Disciple of the Watch was idly practising some guitar riffs when they entered the main part of the Horde Fortress and stumbled upon a tall half dragon woman and a huge bugbear.

"Your incompetence baffles me." declared the half dragon angrily.

"Ooh, she's hot!" whispered Disciple of the Watch, "Hang on! Did she just call my playing incompetent?"

    "No.. she's talking to . . " started Nakia.

"Sssshhhh" hissed Rallymama, kicking Nakia in the shins.

"She insulted me, didn't she?" asked Disciple again. "I'm going to smash her!"

But Disciple did not get a chance to do anything further because Sherincal, the half dragon, teleported away after what was actually an argument with Guthma, the bugbear captain in charge of the goblin Horde.

The party had to fight Guthma and his buddies and struggled particularly with some tougher than usual Orc Shamans who succeeded in Dire Charming Nakia.

"Ha! You got charmed by an orc! When's the wedding?" teased Disciple afterwards, "but seriously, I hope we run into that hag Sherincal again. I'll teach her not to insult me! Disciple of the Watch always gets his REVENGE!"
