I've heard that helms deep is going to be 45 minutes long and is the main battle in two towers. If this is the main battle then i would think that pellenor fields (which seems, in the book, to be a far bigger battle - Gondor vs Mordor pretty much) will be in the third film.

Next in FOTR why oh why did they leave out the Galadriels present giving especially the elf light and even more importantly sams seed box thing. Since without the light sam can't rescue his master and without the box sam can't replant the shires trees at the end (of the book atleast) and to be honest they ought to have left the whole hobbit enslaved thing out of it (as they showed it in galadriels pool) but then got rid of the whole seed box which is very important to it. I doubt that this will come over well but we'll have to wait for the 3rd film to find out. Although as i said without the light this 2nd film won't make sense unless sam pulls the glass vial out of his ass or something, well that's me finished having a go at them leaving stuff out.

Oh and i agree with everything people say about frodo's "WETPANTS (tm) in this and any other topic anywhere.

But even if this film sucked i'd still go and see it, i saw FOTR the day it was out in england with my dad, and will probably do the same this year.

[IMG] ??! Rolsuk Fryulee, when my post seems familiar to you that is probably because I haven't changed my opinion. If you're happy with the movie the way it is - fine for you. For reasons beyond my understanding some people like bad films ...

[IMG] I heard that the extra scenes in the special edition dvd show Galadriel giving each of the Fellowship members their gift. It was excluded due to time issues in the film. Although I've ordered the special edition, I haven't received it yet. Rumor has it that is an extra 45 minutes of footage in the special edition.

It would have been nice to see Tom Bombadil and the Barrow Wights, but I don't think that's in there.

It's supposed to be about 30 - 35 minutes extra. I'll compare the two copies when my Special Edition arrives and let you know for sure.

This movie turns into Aragorn-shipping and the third is a definite Aragorn-praising-fest. BUt if the stuff about Arwen is true. Then PJ did a FRIGGIN mistake. I and Deira are going to go after him, if there is CLASSICAL romance. UGH.

If my interpretation of Faragons TTT-Trailer-Stills was correct, there's some manlove going on: Sam and Gollum. Pretty cool and very hilarious.

Ezellohar...you do have weird tastes...but I guess that the fact that quite a few men like the idea of girl on girl stuff, the reverse runs true for some women as well...

I had forgotten most of the book when I watched the movie so Arwen's expanded role did not really aggravate me...

Shouldn't we enjoy the movie on its own instead of comparing it to the book?

[IMG] I wanted to see this one so bad because I thought the faults in the first one would be made up by the Ents. And why the hell is this classic romance going on between Arwen and Aragorn. There was a long part of that in the first one. If they had cut out the unworthy romantic scene they probably could have fit the Galadriel-gift-giving-scene, which never even should have crossed big PJ's mind as a scene to cut for time constraints. What a jackass.

Shura, you are so friggin right, but sometimes Arwen-bleep really annoys me. She just does. And yes, it's true. Haha. Only slash what I do not like is Aragorn/Legolas, what just ticks me off.

No Bombadil, no Glorfindel, left out the Gimli/Legolas relationship, moved a bunch of dialogue to scenes where it didn't happen (Sam does not, as he does in the film, say "now that's an eye opener and no mistake" in Moria, for example), putting Boromir's death at the end of the LotR, and not at the beginning of TTT, where it's supposed to go, there's absolutely no mention whatsoever of a palantir in the first book, leaving out most of Lothlorien, and, of course, Arwen.

But I loved the film. There's no way you can condense that book into film. There's no point in trying. It's enough to be faithful to the tale, and then bring in your own artistry to it, like David Lynch and Dune. And I dig Arwen in the film. Liv Tyler is hot. People who go to the movies want a love interest, and now they've got one...movies don't make any money if they're hell-bent on satisfying rpg gaming nerds insisting on authenticity at the expense of normal people. Give 'em a break. I thought they did a bang-up job.

I thought the movie was too cryptic for anyone who had NEVER read the book to understand, which several people assured me it was, for your argument to make any sense Gonzaga. Only someone who had read the book would be able to enjoy it like they should, therefore it should follow as closely as possible with the book. Hence the aggravation most people feel when it comes to Arwen's increased part. Also Liv Tyler is hot yes but her face is too round for her to be a believable elf, which is mostly why i got piised off by her.

[IMG] For me it was, to the contrary, so that because of reading the book I was highly unable to enjoy the film at all.

And I found the story all but cryptic, maybe a little confused :shake:

ragusa - The first time I saw the movie, I felt the same way as you.

BUT THEN I GOT OVER IT!!!

Gonzago is correct - film is a different media, and the only way to be true to the books would be to make a thirty-six hour film for each of them.

I personally think that PJ did a commendable job and I applaud him.

As for the Arwen romance problem, well, I was never really satisfied with Tolkien's Victorian sensibilities in the first place. As good as LOTR is, I just wish that it hadn't been quite so... Victorian. (yes, I repeat myself, but if the word fits, use it!)

I am now going to start watching the movie once a week, just to make all of you PJ-Haters angry.

You don't like Arwen because her face is too round for an elf? You really need to get out more.

What about Boromir? That's not at all how I pictured him from the book. Or Aragorn? Merry and Pippin? The film made all of these characters more human, more approachable, more likeable, and they don't all sound the same (like they do, more or less, in the book). Or Frodo? In the book he sounds like the frickin' archbishop of Canterbury.

What's missing from the film (and this, IMO, is what makes it difficult for those who haven't read the books) are the interminable passages about the history of Middle Earth. That is to say, we come across the watch tower of Amon Sul, and Aragorn gets all misty about it, but that's the *only* time it's mentioned and we don't know what he's all worked up about. The same goes for Khazad Dum, or Gondor...in the book it takes like nine years for Gandalf to leave to go to Gondor and read up on the ring, a sequence which takes about three minutes of film. But there's no other way to do it without, as was mentioned, making a thirty-six hour film.

The other thing that's missing, and I wish there *were* a way to do this in film, is the way the hobbits feel when they eat lembas or drink orc draughts. A little thing, I know, but the Hobbits' universe revolves around the stomach, and we don't get much of that in the film. (Though I was in stitches for this passage:

    P: What is that?
M: This, my friend, is a pint. (licks lips)
P: It comes in pints? I'm getting one.

But as concerns the first post, I don't see how they can make TTT without the Ents.
