    Slippers? Thongs? The shoes with the divider between your big toe and the next toe would be called 'jandals' in New Zealand, one of many things we claim to have invented but can't possibly have because they must have been around for centuries before NZ even existed.

    Anyway, I couldn't see anywhere in the above posts why anyone could possibly want to ban jandals. Have you been given a reason?

    nope, but i think they consider it "improper attire". what a load of crap. It's bad enough that they've banned those, now they're going after the rest of the slipper family. the only ones safe are sandals as they have a strap at the back of your foot and the scholl considers it "proper".

    Wow. Fashion police. If they are going to ban "slippers" (which to me are the sort of thing your grandfather wears by the fire when doing the crossword) because it is improper, I hope they also ban trousers that hang so low that everyone can see your undies.

    And wearing socks with sandals at the same time.

    And wearing a skirt over the top of trousers.

    Hey - maybe I should join the fashion police too.

    hehe. but that's what it amounts to imo too.

    for girls, skirts that don't hit the knee area and shirts that show their bellies or "too much" cleavage are likewise forbidden.

    for guys, shorts that don't hit the knee or sleeveless shirts are also forbidden.

    I find it so damn stupid that there are these rules about "proper dressing" yet there are some people that cross-dress and i see nothing being done about them, while my girlfriend was hauled into the discipline office because her shirt moved up when she was bending to pick something up.

    "Only fools follow foolish laws." You're student; act like one and get to the barricades! Demand academic freedom and the liberty to use jandas, revealing shirts, mini-skirts, and other wonderful marvels of warm countries. :D

    At my school, there basically are also those clothing rules, which Enagonios mentioned in his last post.

    The girls shirts may not expose the belly even if they lift their arms up in the air.

    We are also not allowed to wear T-shirts with text printed on. (especially if it might be considered offensive to some of the people at the school. In the case of my school, all these rules are there mainly because we are an International school, and the students come from a large variety of cultures.)

    However, these rules are not enforced too strictly. The belly rule is one of the stricter ones, as is the ones with having shirts/skirts go below the knees. Also, the rule with too short sleeves should be remembered. These rules are no problem anyway.

    And the rule with the text on T-shirts? Well, there are at least two people running around school in "Bad Religion" T-shirts, one with "World Destruction Tour", and one girl wears a shirt saying "Howdy" on the front and "Damn it!" on the back. And nobody objects to it.

    And we are allowed to wear sandals. Without socks.

    so.. if i went to your school wearing the "porn star" (its a brand :p ) shirt that reads "Masturbation is not a crime" they would haul me into the discipline office? They don't really bother with stuff like that over here. It may be different if there was a nude girl on your shirt or if the f-word was on it but i've seen people walking around with shirts that read "Sh!t happens" or something similar and nobody cared.

    @wirhe

    :p i don't really mind the clothing restrictions as i always wear t-shirts, shorts (that hit the knees :p ) and sandals anyways. and there are already lotsa people that are into the whole "activist thing" :D so I'll leave it to them for now :p but it WOULD be nice to see the HOT girls wearing low shirts and short skirts :D 'course the drawback is that not JUST the hot ones would be wearing said clothes :eek:

    Most school girls wear tiny skirts as part of their uniform here and we are far from a hot country! Of course this looks very 'trashy' but they are only young teens.

    Wait... are we still talking about university? Sounds more like a upper secondary-school to me and even then the ladies used skimpy clothes only when they had a "certain" someone. :hmm:

    What's their motivation? I know you've said that they consider it improper attire, but seriously—who believes that kind of crap? And improper for whom?

    De la Salle was (IIRC) a Christian (Catholic?) missionary. This would explain the reason only if this was happening in a fundamentalist Christian country (and Catholicism is not fundamentalistic, regardless of what anyone thinks), with a primary religion such as Watchtower, Mormon or Baptist (if you consider any of them Christian), but not in a Catholic one.
    Perhaps if the college had been taken over by Muslims, I'd have understood that, but it would (it should, at least) be protested.

    This is so astonishing it puzzles me, and I can see absolutely no loose end to untie the knot… Care to shed some light?

    [IMG] Why the timed toilets? La Salle have done some inane things in the past. Maybe they have nothing to do with their money. La Salle is one of the most expensive schools in the country. Sorry, Enagonios. :D

    As for the clothing, I think thats due to cultural pressure. Philippine culture can be (hypocritically) conservative. There may have been complaints by parents or self-appointed guardians of morality. Maybe the La Salle brothers have had a change in thinking. Damn shame though. La Salle's girls are arguably the hottest ones around. I wonder what eveningdrive would say about this. Paging eveningdrive!

    Very true :rolleyes: Bastards! hehe.

    Also very true I'm afraid.

    [sigh]

    @toughluck

    I think Charlie answered your question basically. It's a Christian University so we've got all this crap to deal with. The cultural pressure is also a big factor. whatta hassle.
