My parents met on st. Valentine's day, and (don't laugh!) it was love at first sight. So we celebrated it as their anniversary for years and years without knowing a thing about st. Valentine (Soviet Union, no religion and all that). Then we heard the story and my parents just laughed at the coincidence. I remember it as a good holiday, we would usually go to the movies or just to a park or something like that, all the family, or have a party with a bunch of guests at the nearest weekend. When I got older, I started baking cakes, mostly to show off - and, well, to make it a proper holiday ;)
Of course, flowers were involved, but my father just likes giving them and does that pretty often no matter what the day.
But in general, why there should be a holiday to be nice to someone you love?

I like holiday's, people are happier (most) and i have an excuse for celebrating (any way possible). But this year i have ... exams... on St. Val's day so no more fun for me. But then i am free on 1 April that i love so much  !
