About 20 times more people (60.000) died on a single day at Verdun, in 1916. I wonder, do you have a minute of silence for them as well?
(this is a deliberate example because of the massive number of Englishmen that died that day)
The point is, after a while, those things fade. And it's only natural. People (and life) move on

Actually, it's a 2 minute silence for them. Remembrance Sunday? 11th hour of 11th November.

[IMG] I don't see the great thing of giving a minutes silence to terrorism's most successful attack in history.

Death is a personal thing, I'd find it natural for the families and friends to mourn and have a minutes silence or something similar. All the ones having lost a familiy member or friend in the attack could of course make a mass memorial procession or something similar.

Disagree if you like, but it's my opinions. I think it's rediculous to have a ceremony based on number of deaths. Where is the border for when it's high enough to be a ceremonial thing? What's the number..

Ara, it says you live in Finland, have you thought that maybe not everyone is concerned with america right now? My own country has plenty of problems of its own (such as a dictator and snipers to name a few), but our school gave a rather long moment of silence.

Grrr, what is it against Muslims? What about the Crusades? The Witch Trials? Those were times when every member of Christianity gave full support, this was the actions of a few, there are plenty of good Muslims out there. What pisses me off is when friends im me and say "omg! i saw a black muslim guy with a beard, we'r all gonna die!"

Wildfire: I didn't know that; I stand corrected

Lokken: more than a thousand will usually do :)
Seriously, remember Stalin's words? Something like:
    'kill 1 man and it's murder, kill 1.000.000 and it's a statistic...'

And in any case, I don't see why THE WHOLE WORLD has to have memorial services because of the tragic event of 9/11/2001. I can understand the US holding memorials, but THE WHOLE WORLD?
I mean, does the US hold memorials for all sorts of massacres, mass deaths, genocides etc that have happend in all other places?

When a muslim throws 2 airplanes into the WTC it´s bad, pure evil, "he should get lynched" and all that stuff

But when USA commits genocide in Afghanistan and helds prisoners they can´t charge of anything it´s okay!!

I´m not really getting the logic out of this

If your statement was sarcastic, hats off to you. If you actually stand by those words...then I think I will never be able to take you seriously again.

Morgoth the logic is this: The two airplanes into the WTC were deliberate attacks on a civilian population; almost everyone in the world these days finds that deplorable.

The "genocide in Afghanistan" as you call it was in response to that attack, and I'd say there are few even in Afghanistan who would shed a tear over the destruction of the Taliban and al Qaida.

[IMG] It's funny BTA...When I was in Rome back in March 2001, I saw on the Italian news that the Taliban were destroying 5000 year old statues of Buddha because the Koran forbides idolatry (sp?), despite the fact that the statues have more of a historical and cultural value than religious in this day and age.

When I saw the footage of them blowing up the statues, and shooting them up with machine gun fire, I thought to myself: "I wish we could do something about those narrow-minded bastards!" Looking back, I wish someone had done something then.

Kind of off topic, but I wanted to throw in my two cents.

Yes this was a sad day (though its my birthday:))
Exactly 29 years ago the USA asisted pinochet to take controll over the democratic socialist nation of Chile, thats sad. Then we have WTC, also sad, but its not so special, stuff like that happens every year.

Whoohoo! You made my day Turandil, I'm glad someone still remembers about Chile. Oddly enough, we were supposed to wear white today, and I wore a Chile shirt to school. :D ;)

These signs were posted in Britain. It's good to know we have friends.

Not really on the subject of 9/11, but it will likely also interest readers of this topic:

The Bush Administration released the full text of its charges against Saddam Hussein. The charges formed the basis of Bush's speech to the UN General Assembly today.
