What are 'chav's called in your country?

The 'chav' (or spides as they are called over here)wear addidas, polo, nike, for casual dress (even the girls) but when they want to get 'dressed up' for nightclubs they wear some fake levis and a check shirt or tight bright blue plastic looking shirt. Beige baseball caps are worn all the time, even to funerals.

Basically you cannot go wrong with 'sporty' clothing - even if you look like you never did sports in your entire life.

The Spides wear rings on ever finger, they are either really cheap or really expensive (due to mugging old ladies, people walking home at night by themselves etc). Sovereign ring are the most common as they are used to as knuckledusters against 'hippies', goths or their girlfriends.

Pets have to be pitbull's or other nasty looking dogs.

They also have slang for everything and I don't know what they are saying anymore.

 

Actually, most chav's in Denmark are immigrants and refugee's. They now have an official dialect here in Denmark, cu's their slang language, which are a mix up of several different languages (mainly Arab though), there's so widely used that society has accepted it as a new dialect.

 

I can't believe the term "trailer trash" hasn't cropped up yet.

Honestly, it's not having a poor upbringing that makes anyone "trash" or not. It's having the opportunity to rise above your background and refusing to take it. Remember Tonya Harding, that skater who had her rival's knee bashed? I never cared that she had had a difficult childhood, but what bugged me about her was that international skating gave her so much exposure to other ways of living and she never learned anything from it.

 

This thread is interesting and it can carry on as it likes; however I feel the need to state that as I understand it in the UK being "chav" is a word used to describe people who use clothes and accessories / lifestyle etc. to show their relative wealth as compared to their peers, and as a statement of belonging to a new social class.
They cannot be compared to "trailer trash", "rednecks" or anything of that nature.
"Chav's" didn't grow up with money, but now have money. Unfortunately - and this is where the below average intelligence comes in, they don't know what to do with it. However they are not stupid people at all, they just appear that way because wearing lemon (or pink) towelling track suits and fluffy moon boots looks a bit daft.
Perhaps the most famous Chav in the UK right now is Coleen Mcloughlin the g/f of Wayne Rooney (teenage soccer star) who was once described as "looking like she had just covered herself in glue and run through Harvey Nicholls" (posh clothes shop).

 

Daaamn. You shore people are a world away aren't you? Think "wigger" that's just discovered he/she has pubic hair and you've got a Newmarket Freshie. Guess being in North Auckland you don't visit Newmarket that often.

 

I've always called them Neds.

 

Trailer Trash, Hicks, and Hillbillies are all a different breed than Chavs(we call them wiggers).

Abomination - not only have I never heard of a Newmarket Freshy, but I have no idea what a 'wigger' is.

I'm beginning to become even more thankful that I live on THIS side of the bridge......

 

Wigger is not used over here, and while I can see how its a fitting term for those strange white men, I can imagine that its offensive to the black community.

 

We call them 'Knackers' here. White tracksuit jackets with double stripe on the arms, white runners, a cap slanted at 45 degrees, and chunky jewellery are the trademarks for the guys. Add 'bleached hair caught on a ponytail' for the female version.

 

The dominant thought on my mind when seeing those people on TV... or in substations... is "kaputt", "einfach kaputt" or "Deutschland kaputt?". And I am sure most others here have similar feelings.

Demographic decline or no - they should be expelled from European territory, for they dont really help matters.

 

I sense a lot of prejudice here. I do not, however, know wether it's deserved or not. Aren't these guys just people like you and me, who've just chosen another path in life? Or, rather another social group in which they can reflect themselves...?
I don't know... I don't feel what you guys feel.
No hatred, only pity. No prejudice, but acceptance to the fact that you should be who you want to be.

 

olimikrig - everyone is free to be who they want to be, but I can still laugh at you if you wear funny clothes and too much fake jewellery and drink alcopops as you walk down the street.

 

I have a friend who lives in an area full of chavs. He's been beaten up several times, because he has long hair which apparently makes him a goth by their standards. People like those chavs deserve contempt.

Kent is full of chavs. You can't turn the corner without walking into some fifteen year old dressed in sports clothing, wearing a baseball cap at a ridiculous angle, and talking about beating up "all them goths."

An observation: female chavs at a young age tend to be slim, but after their first child (i.e. around the age of 14) they swell. It's astonishing.

If I sound bitter towards them, it's because I am. Tonbridge is plagued with them, and they delight in causing trouble to anyone not wearing Nike.

 

Unfortunately what Alavin says is completely true. It might seem like a generalisation, but its true!

By the way its not just limited to the so-called poor of society as I know some rich people that spend their time with the spides/chaves/etc

At home its like this:

"Mummy dearest, your cookies are really rather scrumptious!"

With their chav friend:

"This battle 'o buckies 's makin me really pissed!"

 

10 years ago, when Hardcore Dancemusic (Here called Gabber) was still in, we called them Sjonnies (male) and Anita's (female).
Bigmouthed, but not necessarily out of a job. I call them 'proleten' now.

As Morgoth said, since a recent TV program called 'De Tokkies', many dutch people call them Tokkies. These are different to Gabbers/Sjonnies/Anitas. More like how Barms described the chavs.
I, and many other people, call such a person an 'Aso' (Asocial).

Has Lonsdale-clothing anything to do with this?

 

What is a doll bludger? I assume you mean like a Barbie doll, or something, maybe a guy who beats his girlfriend?

Chavs deserve our contempt, in some cases at least. Anyone who thinks acting like that is cool is not much better.

Also, as I understand it, and I have seen this, wigger came about because these guys are mostly white, drug dealers too sometimes, who call their friends, or "dogs", their nigg***. Which is a word I despise, btw, hence the term wigger.

 

Our school was infested with them. We (my friends and myself) called them "geds", though the term "ned" seems to have become prevalent. I recall one of my friends being threatened by three of them, I attempted to help him out, by outwitting them, but within seconds there was literally thirty. So, we beat a hasty retreat, and told on them. They got into trouble, and we were pleased.

 

We call them Spides.

Guess it comes from the kids that used to like spiderman comics growing up.
