There has to be something wrong with harbours if 'you' are spawn of one :p

I'm certain there are zoos in Australia - Croc Hunter anyone? - that are far better than Auckland's zoo.

Oh, down my end of New Zealand, we have a fair few things. A short swim away from one of NZs largest pest-free areas, Kapiti Island we also have old abandond battlments from WW2 just down the road. Then there are things like Nga Mangu Bird place thingy, which has a massive collection of native birds and other creatures, a facinating place. And then of course there is Kapiti Cheese, which is now an internationally famous cheese maker, with top quality ice cream!

And then of course there's boring things like car thingys and a lot of other stuff like a facinating beach and inlet (sp?).

Oh, and of course there are the amazing views, like the one in that website, which I see everytime I drive to hockey (apart from the fact that photo is a bit further towards the land than I can usually see, and there is no sunset in the background there...).

And one of the best things about it (apart from me living there) is that it's weathers completely different from Wellington! So no wind, nearly always sunny (so much so that we often have serious water shortages...) and.. well great weather!

[Edit] Oh, and HB is fairly right about the Zoo. It is an amazing zoo, much better than that Aussie one, and I'm not just saying that because I'm a NZer. But Auckland is still boring... it's too big! Stupid cities.... [/Edit]

@ Abomination: You probably have noticed my location, yes? And the way I keep calling this place rather unpleasant names. :p

And Taza? There are actually tourists in Ikaalinen. Eze and her family were there a few months back :p

No idea if it's a fjeld or a whatever. But it's still cool and brings in tourists/money :p

    @HB: Sesame Place

It's fun, even for grown-ups, and worth the price of admission. Best of all, it's only 15 minutes or so from the house, so we'd get a season pass and go after I got home from work.

IIRC, it IS the biggest seaport in the world, unless Singapore has grown a bit too fast because of this Global Shift.

The lowest point in the Netherlands below sealevel is also in Rotterdam (Alexander-polder). I thought it was 6.7 meters below.

Well lets see now...highlights...ummm...we hosted the 2002 Winter Olympics, so you can see the Olympic torch (in a smaller scale) at a park they built where the real torch stood durring the games. In the summer you can go down the ski-jump ramps and do some tricks in the air before falling into a big pool.

In the winter there are a lot of ski resorts: Snowbird, Alta, Brighton, Beaver Mountain, Brian Head, Deer Valley, Park City Resort, Powder Mountain, Snowbasin, Solitude, Sundance, and The Canyons...most of which aren't very far from downtown Salt Lake City, Alta and The Canyons are the closest.

If you like red rock formations, and really hot temperatures, then The Arches, and Zion's Ntl. Park is the place for you.

If you're LDS or anti-LDS Salt Lake City is where the church's headquarters is, Utah also has the most LDS temples scattered within one single state...the coolest looking one not being in Utah...it's in San Diego, CA. Take a look at the awsome arcitecture. (sp) :rolling:

@MoN, nope the lowest point is near Nieuwekerk aan den IJssel, 6.74 meters below NAP. Not really fair since it used to be a lake that was drained. (We do that a lot here, draining lakes, fun fun).

Anchorage, Alaska has very little to offer other than more or less readily accessibly scenery and wildlife. We get HUGE tourism (relative to our population anyway) in the summer, mostly idiots who want to gawk at the moose/mountains, and wonder why we don't live in igloos and tame polar bears. So, yeah. If you're gonna come to Anchorage (or anywhere in AK, really) be prepared for boredom the entire time if you're not observing nature or observing the inside of a movie theater.

Well, the only two things I can think of that may qualify as highlights, if you stretch the meaning of the word, are the Big Banana and the Pet Porpoise Pool which is the only oceanarium in NSW licensed by the Govt to exhibit dolphins.

Oh, and we have one Legal brothel as well as one or two that are illegal. Other than that we only have beaches which some say are among the best in the world but I really don't agree with that.

Well, in last summer, when i was sitting outside my house in the garden, there were always alot of tourists and bikers coming by, and you could always here saying "what a beautiful place is this", well that really gives me a good feeling.
And yes, i live at a real nice place in town, very old stile house, a church in front of our house, and alot of big trees around our house, yes a real good place.

Vaasa is a coastal city and pretty old (founded somewhere around the 17th century), so here is some quite fancy houses and stuff. Also, we have a multi-million uni/lab/lib campus area -something not every city can boast to have.

Sydney has recently been voted the best city in the world by an UN study team...... again.

Doesn't that just say it all?

Although I live in Sydney though, I still prefer Canberra (purpose - built national capital) of Australia

Bryson writes Canberra is so sterile you could operate in it (well, along those lines anyway). Did he just miss all the action then?

My impression of Canberra is that you (and Bryson) are right on the money there Tal, the only 'benefit' I know of is that apparently marijuana is apparently as good as legal there because all the politicians' children smoke it and they don't want their families in trouble with the law.

Anyway, apparently Coffs is in the running in the current "Most Liveable Cities In The World" awards. Don't know why though.
