My favourite race has got to be half-elf. They make them excellent mage/thief combinations, and since there aren't many good NPC's with either of these classes, you can have a mage and a thief, with five NPC's of 'fighting' classes. An excellent combo!

How come? What's wrong with dwarf clerics for example? And elven fighters or rogues? Why doesn't a gnomish fighter make sense, are you saying that in a gnome city there are no fighters whatsoever? That's like saying humans can only be commoners, because that's the most common class you see. Don't start with stereotypes, now.

Though I definitely prefer halflings to other races I do not restrict them to rogues alone. I have played halfling bards, sorcerers, paladins and rangers ... ;)

However, recently I found me creating fullsize chars, humans, elves and halfelves and they are fun to play. Dwarfs rock as fighter and clerics .... and yes! thieves. Gnomes are pretty cool mages and I have once made a gnomish mc fighter-illusionist who was nothing less but awesome. Elven kensais and archers are awesome - not only due to their racial bonus. All races have quite a lot of potential.

I don't know. When I encounter a dwarf, I immediately think Fighterkin. I think this is a leftover from Tolkien's Silmarillion, where Dwarfs are not much more than Fighters and Blacksmiths. What I said was nonsense, of course Dwarves can be thieves and clerics.

Elvish Rogues? I don't know, again from Tolkien's books, elves are portrayed as society with strict rules. They are a proud people, not lurking in the dark 'gonna steal your sandwich' kinda characters. That's just my impression of them. I guess I'm just Tolkien's Bitch/Fanboy

Ow, and this is how you quote (just use [] instead of {} )

Gnomes are the best! followed closely by Half-Orc.

    Reasons:19 int, strenth.
Oh and Gnomes happen to be the funniest characters e.g. Jan.

But the problem with Int 19 is you have to be illusionist which cannot learn Necromancy spells, so what is the point of being able to learn all the spells in a level. I assume It is so you do not have too powerful mages.

The point of a specialist mage like an illusionist is that they get more spells compared to a pure "universal" mage. This comes on cost of the ability to cast spells of the opposite school.

So the deal is: you can memorise more spells, but are restricted in your choice. And the necromantic school is the opposite school of the illusionist school :book::coffee:
