What kind of D&D creature should have been in the game?

The tarrasque? Er, no. (Yes, "the", because there is only one.)

Word on driders, though. While the idea of them working in concert with Sendai is ludicrous, I would have liked to have seen a drider nest in the Underdark, as a "random" encounter, at least.

I would have also liked to see a chitine colony down there, perhaps as part of another quest from the Matron Mother (instead of the kuo-toas?). For those that don't know, chitines are another offshoot race from the drow, the result of magical experiments by the drow of Ched Nasad gone horribly awry. They also worship Lolth, and like other creatures of the Underdark, their society is pretty bizarre.

I think a sidequest with them would have been interesting.

a medusa definitely. maybe after killing her you could also keep the head as an inventory item that could petrify enemies (as done in the myth).

also, just to clarify, but isnt calling them "medusas" incorrect? IIRC, they were "gorgons" and medusa was the name of the mortal one. (There were 3, the other 2 were immortal).

@ Enagonios - From the perspective of mythology, you are correct. Classical D&D lore does not always worry about details like that, though. Medusa and Gorgon are two different D&D monsters. Go figure.

Not to nitpick, but I think the plural of that is "medusae". Sorry, it's the English major in me, I swear! :D

In D&D medusae are just what you think they are. Gorgons are bull-like creatures that have a petrification breath weapon. They are quick and rather nasty.

There's also a male medusa monster called a maedar that is extremely rare. I always thought they were kinda lame though. Not gelatinous cube lame, just kinda silly.
