@Morningstar - And whow were their societies? THey were chaotic, pretty much chaotic evil, with the strongest will only survive, and as soon as they went out to fight, they didn't leave one muddafugga at home so it was just for their enemies to enslave their children and rape their wifes.

    Ahhh, history!!

I'm proud that Finland actually survived the winter war against the russians. The russians had twice as much infantry, 200 times as many tanks and 10 times as many planes. At the end of the war 24000 finnish soldiers had died, while the russians had lost 200000.

    @Velve
I disagree they were chaotic evil in D&D terms. They were not as much chaotic as strong-willed and wanting to be independant. Otherwise they had their traditions to follow as laws. IMO they were somewhere neutral to chaotic.
And Evil.... raping&robbing&sacking cities and burning villages was a common thing back then. In our time, judged with our values and morals they do seem evil, but back then it wasnt. If they were really so bad and hideously evil, the europe woul've done something about it, other than just waiting to be raided again.
Ah, well just the way i see it.

    Our country... Beer :D
And Laško mind you, not some piss called Union :p

Nothing, really. Some say that Finland is a leader in IT-tech and science, but I think such things are just nationalistic gibberish. If some people are good at it and happen to speak finnish, why should I feel proud?

Ireland is my home country although I live in England now. In Ireland we make some kick arse whiskey, breed some quality racing horses and we make ->Guinness<-

    Ireland >

    Proud ;d

There is nothing quite like Ireland. England is better to live in though ;d

Now that Velve have countered all my arguments on Norway, I have to find some new...

    - We're rich(very rich in fact)...
    - It's a beautiful country(everything's relative of course, but the mainstream say that it is, so I guess it's true. And I say it too, even more important)...
    - We have nice chicks(proofed)
    ....and last but not least...
    - I live here(very important, in fact, that's the most important part for me)...

I am quite proud of the "melting-pot" effect of American culture. We have almost every culture of the world living within the confines of our borders, yet they all get along peacefully. We have Jews and Arabs, blacks and whites, gays and fundementalists, Russians and Republicans, Nascar fans and unmarried cousins and while they may not all get along famously, they do indeed coexist.

All the things Holland is known for, isn't actually anything to be proud of. I doubt anyone can walk on wooden shoes, tulips aren't from Holland at all, windmills are just plain ugly, and the fact that they let you into the country, if you have less than three kilos of drugs on you, isn't something to be proud of either. We even traded America for the Antilles for crying out loud. We once had one of the biggest navies around, but we have a laughable army nowdays. The term for splitting a bill, after dinner in a restaurant or for a cab, is actually called 'going-Dutch'. And how can anyone take a government serious, in which the prime minister looks like a grown up Harry Potter?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not anything but proud of Holland, like Faragon. Master of Nuhn mentioned the dykes and how we fought the water, but we also have actually transformed water into land. What used to be lakes, are now cities. This country may suck, but we created it ourselves. God created the world, but the Dutch created Holland!

Well I'm just proud of England full stop. Although I'd much rather be Scottish or Irish 'cos they have some down right amazingly beautiful country side.

I could also say I'm proud to be a 1/4 Dutch but I'm not to up to date with whats happening there.

    [IMG] For Americans ...

Is case any Americans are going to post, it might be a good idea to limit yourself to your respective state.

The United States currently has 50 members and comparing it, as a whole, to any other single state is a tad unfair.

... we could have a Europe vs. United States topic.

Given you're neither the largest country in area or population, and historically date back for a significantly shorter period than other nations, that is hardly the case. Also many of the states on their own would be globably relatively insignificant.

In short, because I only have a very limited time today, I'm proud of our melting pot of cultures here in Australia as well (as Thinker mentioned about the USA), even though we did try (and, technically, eventually succeed) in our past to eradicate our indigenous peoples, we've finaqlly, as a whole, realised that they are a valuable part of our heritage. I'm also proud of the fact that although we have not, AFAIK, started any wars per se, we've mostly come in a mopped up messes created by other countries and their war-mongering. And no, I'm not at all proud of the way Bonsai Johnny (bonsai because he wants to be a little Bush) handled our involvement in the recent conflict.

Other than that, I'd have to say I'm very proud indeed of our general Aussieness - our ideals of mateship and rooting for the underdog most of the time.

Anyway, as I said I've only a limited time today so feel free to pick apart whatever you like. I'm probably wrong a quite a few points there.

    Here's what makes me proud:

    - The refusal to let the Germans pass in the WWII, the government signed, but the people protested

    - The fact that we are the first in basketball, near the top in volleyball, waterpolo and let's not forget, the first in mixed doubles in tennis

    - The whole history, excluding the nineties

Anyway, whoever goes somewhere abroad from here, says people don't hang out like here. I have particularly heard this about Sweden. I know it's hard to judge from your point of view, but is it true? This may be off topic but I would really like to know.

Such can also be said of many European states. This thread is about what makes you proud of your state/country, not who's state has the most global influence.

Reposted for page 2 of the thread.

Well, despite all the raging communitsts and socialists who claim America is some big, evil empire, i am extremely proud of my country.

We are probably more responsible than any other country in world war 2 for stopping the Germans/Japanese from conquering the world.

(Yes i KNOW other countries were also major factors so don't jump down my throat, i'm just saying America is probably the biggest reason the allies won)

ANd then, despite being teh only coutnry with nuclear weapons, America benevolently gave back all the territory it gained and didn't try to take advantage of its superior weapons.

In modern times, whenever there is a major earthquake, flood, famine etc. in some country, even an enemy, America is always the first one on the scene with money, food, financial aid and of course, rescue workers.

Whenever some big country is beating on a little country, using brutal methods of warfare to conquer it, America is always right there to stop the conflict. And if any of you try to claim America bullied Iraq or the whole thing was about oil, you're an idiot, if that was hat we wanted we would've just demanded the oil, instead we're over there pouring tons of our own money into their country, building libraries, schools and police stations to bring those poor people who have lived under an oppressive despot for so long some freedom and basic human rights.

America finances the U.N. with all weapons and whatnot.

America is the only reason half the world hasn't collapsed or ended up under some brutal dictator. Yes, i'm sorry but we NEED to station our troops in other countries to stop them from killing each other.

And finally, America is the only thing standing between China and world domination, and i'm willing to bet that within 20 years America and China will be at war, maybe not directly, more like through some war ravaged third world country, that seems to be how superpowers conduct their wars these days, so they don't end up nuking each other.

There are more reasons, but i'm just gonna cut and run and prepare to be verbally abused by all the liberals, commies and other America-haters. ;)

Everyone knows that we, the Polish, can kick ass. We could come over, kick your ass, drin your beer and screw yor girls if we really wanted. That's how we started:

    AD 982 kicked the Germans
    AD 1002-1004 kicked the Czech
    AD 1003-1005 kicked the Germans
    AD 1015-1018 kicked the Germans
AD 1018 kicked the Russian (well, Ruthenians)
    AD 1025 kicked the Germans
    AD 1060 kicked the Hungarians
    AD 1063 as above
    AD 1069 kicked the Ruthenians
    AD 1072 kicked the Czech
    AD 1077 kicked the Ruthenians

I could continue like this for centuries ;)

We have a real knack for kicking the ass of an opponent outnumbering us a few times. For example when in 1605 Charles of Sudermanenland, the evil Swedish usurper, came to Poland (that where he came is now Estonia doesn't matter ;) ) with 14-18 thousand soldiers, he got his ass kicked sorely by Polish commander JK Chodkiewicz with, fanfares!, 3000 soldiers and some 300 from the Duke of Curland that arrived right before it started.

We also have a knack for charging gunners and artillery with cavalry. And winning. For example, when the Swedish came over in 1627, records say their gunner's severed hands fired their muskets after falling on the ground, so quick and uber was our heavy cavalry led by Polish commander Koniecpolski. In Spain, we did the same with artillery.

Actually, our cavalry was so renowned for its uberness that the US one was made after it by a Polish general Pułaski.

I bet we should conscript some cavalry for the NATO :p
