Not always - some people complain when, really, they have nothing to complain about. If you're from a developed nation, the odds are that you're life's pretty comfortable. Most of what people complain about's pretty trivial, like Cesard said. True, it seems important to them, but rarely does it make a great deal of difference. It's a case of being not-as-well-off-as-whoever, rather than being genuinely hard up.

I mean, I lived in Argentina, a country 'in development', where once we lived happy because we could buy almost two of everything and at the end of the month we still had money, of course, we had to pay a price for that so suddenly we didn't reach 10th of the month but even back in those happy days we complained about 'lack of rain, drivers driving too fast, pigs not enough dirty, etc.'; here in Spain, a 'first world country' I see much and even worst of the same: gay's marriage, the music on trains, dogs making their crap on walkways, cars not stoping where they should, and many, many more; sometimes there are things that I can understand why the complain, but when I heard that politician X complains because politician Y blames politician X because the traffic jam so politician... I got lost...
Complaining about taxes, politician, money shortage is almost normal; what I see as stupid complain and a waste of space, time and money are those everyday moaning.

I like to complain about how moronic people are and how they can never see further than their own noses and how they never think things through but make decisions based on emotions and crap like that.

In my opionion it is mostly the great mass of average Joes who force politicians to be inept, corrupt and idiotic. Only way to even beging to try to please the mob.

I also like to complain about the horrid taste of people in general and the dumbification of the entire western society with its reality shows and manufactured pop icons and with its rampant anti-intellectualism.

I am an arrogant elitist jerk if no one has noticed. ;)

ermmmm because your lawn has little brown patches on it so theirs must be greener? ;)

The two biggest topics of conversation I hear seem to be the Weather and driving. And yes, they generally involve moaning. Still we had a cracking Bank Holiday weekend weather wise, and the roads were quiet because everyone thought the weather was going to be foul!

There is a lot of complaining about unfaithful romantic partners and about sexually licentious behaviour.(Note: we don't exceed the world's average in cheating)

Today there was a letter in a newspaper from a lady complaying because local transport picked a baby as a model for their advertising campaign, she said that a baby drinking his milk doesn't represent the spirit of the company and because that spirit that their pretend to show doesn't even exist.
Now that's! is something to complain about.

I live in the United States. What people complain about here is pretty much everything. A few examples:

    - I saw a group of protesters in southern Manhattan a few days ago protesting the presence of an art museum. There are also many people (myself included) who are not happy about the decline of culture.

    - One group of people complains about how lazy the youth of today are. Another group complains that everyone else is not as lazy as they are!

    - Some people complain about the high gas prices. Strangely enough, we still have the cheapest gas prices in the world!

    Need I go on?
