Just started in Martin's "A Feast for Crows", which Faragon gave me as a BD-present, months ago. :thumb:

I finished The Lair of Bones yesterday - it was actually better than the previous couple books in the series but still not as good as the first book.

I am going to be starting on Honor Among Enemies by David Weber on the train ride to work this morning.

Finished Jed Rubenfield's The Interpretation of Murder. Very interesting, thought the final plot twist was something of a cheap trick, I thought. On the other hand, it offers a meticulously researched and evoked picture of early 1900's New York City as well as a nicely imagined peek into the early controversies within and about psychoanalysis. I thought it would have more of an alternate history flavor, but really it doesn't.

Good to see all the people enjoying Erikson's Malazan books. Soon there will be enough people on these Boards who have read them who will be able to explain them to me. I have a hundred questions I need answered.

In the meantime, I am reading "Jane Eyre" by Charlotte Bronte, for a complete change of pace.

Re-reading "Northern Lights" from Philip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" Trilogy (possibly the greatest series ever written) :)

Finished 1984 not too long ago, now I have to read a book from a select group of 'American Authors' from my teacher. Right now it looks like Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse 5.

Though they aren't books I'm reading now, I highly recommend Dan Simmons's Ilium and its sequel Olympos. Be forewarned that the first book leaves a lot hanging to be finished in the second. It would be a hit with alternate history, ancient warfare, alternate future, and science fiction fans in general. The short story that gives some of the lead-up to the books is "The Ninth of Av" which is included in the story coolection Worlds Enough & Time.

I finished Honor Among Enemies during my lunch break - it is one of the better books in the series.

I am going to start Knights of the Black Earth by Margaret Weis and Don Perrin on the train ride home. I have read it before - it isn't good from a literary perspective but it is a fun and pulpy sci-fi read.

Edit: I finished Knights of the Black Earth last night. I am going to continue on with the series and read Robot Blues next.

    Emperor - Stephen Baxter.

Well researched historical fiction, but ultimately too emotionless and dry for my taste.

Moby-Dick by Melville...it's weird. And the passages that describe the hunting of the whales can be quite sad.

    The Golden Globe, John Varley

Pretty solid. A marked improvement on the Gaia Trilogy, which is the only other work of his I've read. That might have something to do with TGG being written, oh, two and a half decades after the Gaia Trilogy...

Thanks, Amaster, I may try Varley again. Sure hated the Gaia Trilogy.

edit: OTOH I really liked Steel Beach.

Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire by Steve Perry

I read this one awfully late, considering how SW geek I am. I recommend it for anyone who wants a good Star Wars book.
