    My favorite characters I've played in order are:-

    Bard (Blade)
    Druid (Shapeshifter)
    Ranger (Stalker)
    Mage/Thief

    The bard was definitely my favorite though. They can be awesome, but do need a good supporting party.

    For the bow discussion, there's a bow called Mana Bow somewhere, although I don't know where it is. It's a +4 Longbow that provides +20% Magic Resistance.

    Back on the topic, the best character I ever played was a human Swashbuckler. Of course, I've only finished the game twice...

    I am currently playing through the game with a Half-Elven Fighter/Mage... It's a good character although multiclassed characters are very, very slow-developping skills and levels. I can't wait to get Time Stop... It will be an ultimate machine with it...
