I am not sure... Sorcerer is the most powerful but actually I also like it... its energy comes from his veins...
I would maybe choose a Conjurer then, if I could play the game only once.

Import your paladin, continue the story with the character you have been playing.

Why? Are you planning to be busy with something else in 2005 and 2006?

Well, there will probably be some new games to play by then, like Demon Stone - plus I still haven't finished the three Neverwinter Nights campaigns (only got to Chapter One of the OC).

I think it's a moot point. It's very difficult to play BG2 only once. Out of the times I've played it, I had the most fun as a sorcerer - but only because I knew what spells I wanted ahead of time. Paladin was my first playthrough - Cavalier, to be precise - but I honestly ended up playing him more as NG than LG. I must, however, encourage you to continue on with your current PC, as the Paladin is an extremely well-balanced class for BG2.

Yes, it would be difficult to play only once, but I just can't see how I will have time to play more than that. Now that I have realised that NWN SoU and HotU can be started without completing the original campaign, I have them on my list to play as well. Then there's Demonstone as well.

I think I will carry on with my BG Paladin. I'll just need to find the right roleplaying reason for choosing the Paladin kit, then make sure I choose a fun party with a wide variety of classes (especially the BGII unique classes)

You're best off importing your Paladin, and choosing a kit for him.

IMHO, all of the Paladin kits are good. Just choose whichever one you like the best.

If you're using Edwin, Jaheira, Minsc, Imoen, or Viconia in your BGI party, they're available in BGII, and you should add them ASAP for continuity purposes.

    Have fun!

I'm only using Minsc and Imoen in BG.

I'll choose the Paladin kit that seems to fit the character best.

She doesn't seem self righteous enough to be a Cavalier, although the immunity to fear would suit her.

Inquisitor sounds powerful and she could certainly be on a quest to get rid of evil magicians.

Undead Slayer sounds cool, but would only make sense from a role-playing viewpoint if she encounters any influential undead in the last couple of chapters of BG (if not, then why would she bother becoming an undead slayer at the start of BGII?)

I'd say a blade would be the most interesting class. I've also found a fighter 7/cleric x (human dual class) to be good fun as well.

Agreed - Anomen is a right prat.

Or you might try adding the Solaufein mod, although that might be a bit tough for the first time through. You'd also have to rush through Chapters 1-5, which isn't as terrible as it sounds because you can always do anything from Chapters 2 & 3 in Chapter 6.

Why is it such a big deal whether the PC has someone to romance? Romance sounds like a reasonably silly thing to have in a game like this. Surely I can play the game without worrying about who romances whom. This isn't The Sims.

That's a great outlook on things, Harbourboy.

I had always selected my party based on romances, and never had the fun I'm having now until I started playing a dwarf (my favorite race, and unable to have a romance).

@Harbourboy: What chances of a Sorcerer PC? :(

    Atleast a Mage??

Also...if you are playing with a party, do NOT take a Blade.

I am a great fan of the Blade class as well, (after Sorcerers of course), but they need way too much micro-management, all the best equipment, etc etc (refer to Scythesong's guide for full details)...and you can be just as powerful, if not more, with NO items equipped on your Sorcerer! :D

Meh...I suppose Paladin's are alright as well. Make her an Inquisitor or Undead Hunter and watch her hog the kill counts. :)

    @harbourboy

i agree with your take on the romances. they were merely a pleasant surprise as they weren't present in BG. i wouldn't bother romancing since your pc is a girl though. personally, id find it weird :/ hehe. As for influential undead, have you visited ulcaster school or the thief's maze yet? may provide the motivation you seek :p

Um, my Ulcaster is corrupted so I can't go there (lucky it's not plot critical otherwise I'd have to get a whole new copy of the game). I haven't heard of the Thieves Maze so I must not be up to that yet.

So it doesn't really matter if there is no romance then? You don't miss out on any XP or anything?

If you romance Jaheira (impossible since your PC is Female), you can get a bonus XP at the end of the romance.

The romance is buggy, and it isn't worth creating a new character and ditching your current one for. There's more than enough XP to go around in this game.
