    IIRC Spartans gave this answer to the representatives of persian empire or of another greek city-state.

    Edit: If I have remembered correctly, they have answered this to King Philip II or to his son Alexander the Great.

    It was the village of Laconia in Sparta. Philip of Macedonia had told them, "If I come to Laconia I will raze it to the ground." Hence the modern day concept of "laconic" remarks.

    Actually, Sparta is the name of the city and Laconia is the name of area where Sparta is.
