    It is Aristotle? I was sure I read that quote in Machiavelli's speech on how to be a good ruler... or perhaps it was Thomas Hobbes' Leviathan... apparently not.

    I'm a Wagner fan.

    No one seems to be quite sure of the exact wording of this one (possibly there are several correct variations because the speaker used it more than once). Anyway, it is frequently cited in economics text books when they talk about the "winner's curse".

    The quote is
