Yeeeeeeeiiik! The Nobleman stands freezed!! Unable to move he thinks back on what hee has said. He remembers now. He wanted to say humans halv-elves elves dwarves and other intelligent creatures with a heart, that can be healed and nutured. "But I only said humans" The Nobleman thinks again standing paniced. "How could I be so ignorant and superficial?" A thousand thoughts rush through his head, although they may be the furthest of his worries.
The Nobleman tries to stutter out his corrections but nothing but awkward sounds come from his mouth.

"What's this, you seem a bit... worried?... Is that a bead of perspiration I see? Feeling a little uncomfortable are we?"
The voice of the hooded person is low and cold.
"Well, what say you.. Paladin? You wish to summon my hatred, that I must fight to keep at bay?"

[IMG] I was not saying that this order was unruley(sp) towards me, or any of the other members.
I was simply stating that i was the only Brother here that did not recieve a greeting from any other. Though i have greeted several before this. Simply put, i was never acctualy recognized. I was not looking for a place in the torch light, as Sir Nobleman has recieved, but mearly to be acnoledged by my own bretheren. Do not think me cold or heartless. Rather left out.

Now then, on to the stories. Sorry, for i do not possess the the time to tell any story of grandure. I hope to hear some more though.

And also, i do not dwell in the temple district so much. More, i spend my days in the slums, fighting the slave trade, or in the bridge district, destroying murderers, such as neb, and others(such as the tanner, which i tracked all of the way to Trades Meet). I find that this keeps me humble, and i retain my respect for the... less fortunate.

And to the earlyer question, yes, i would undoubtedly give my life if it were for a humble peasant.

The Nobleman gather his thoughts again. this has most certainly been the most stormy evening of his life. But now he seems focussed again. My dear Sir!... Yes Your looks makes me uncomfertable. That I cannot.. and will not hide. Cause I will be honest to You. Many a time You have come across resistance and hatred, I presume. This I can only regret. But Here in this temple, You may find peace. I mean You no harm and I can hear from You, that There is good within Your heart. And As say now. So shall it be.

Anyone can be redeemed. Anyone who has a heart that fights a struggle against evil. And that is most certainly Yours, if any!!
The Nobleman Lays his hand gently on the hooded figures shoulder.
Take with me the first step of many towards a life in peace and balance. Take with me the first step towards Sir Dargorn.

The Nobleman looks at Sir Dargorn hoping that this magnificent and charismatic leader will rise from his chair and approach, the two misplaced souls standing in the shadows. In the shadows both physically and mentally "the nobleman thinks in a philosophic, yet worried way".

    "Walk with you..."
The half-elf takes away Noblemans hand, that rests on his shoulder.
"You must find me stupid if you think I am to fall for such a trick. I have no reason to trust you, or any other in here for that matter. You're... you're all the same, if I were to walk with you, there are numerous knights in here that would judge me just like you did, and Sir Dargorn would be no exception. He may be wise, but to me he seems to be an arrogant fool. I have learned my lesson, I am not to endanger myself never again. Trust is a thing of fairytales for the ones who has the skin of I... I like the shadows just fine."

As You wish. The Nobleman says in a rather confused way. "If You Judge Yourself to the shadows. How can we at all hope to help You", he continues still pondering how to help this poor soul. You Will be judged in here too, but in time You will be accepted as well.

This has most recently become my home. I may be more naive than You. I have lived my life within walls of safety. I would lie if I said i knew how You felt. You have done Yourself a great deed even by coming to theese halls. Search Your feelings and You know this is a path worth walking. The Nobleman Pauses and again looks at the Hooded figure. "rest Your soul. Torture it nomore tonight. Stand in the shadows if You must. But stand in the shadows of this temple. At least for tonight."

The Nobleman turns to the Cheerfull and storytelling crowd gathered around Mathetais and the great table. "this is no good way to welcome the hooded figure". the Nobleman thinks "NO good" he now mumbles. He looks at sir Dargorn to interrupt, but haults. He looks back at the hooded Figure and says in a pleeding voice. Please stay within the secure walls of this temple tonight. Allow Yourself this joy.

The Nobleman walks to a table and pours a glass of wine and takes some bread. Then walks back to hooded figure and asks still in pleeding yet humble way "Please at least would You accept some food and water to satisfy your body"

"Well... I guess, I could stay here for the night, and thank you for your, hospitality, it... it is not a thing I have been familiar with.. for a long time that is.
Perhaps... there are people, to whom I can turn my back without finding a knife there."
the half-elf says, with a voice thats insecure and less cold than before

Sir Mathatais, what a great offer you have placed before us. A pommel jewel from the sword of a great hero of good. Alas, I have no great tales to tell as Sir Dargorn has, for I am but a lowly Paladin. My experiences are likened to a drop of water if compared to the seas of experience you have all sailed. I shall but sit here snugly by the fire and listen to your tales.

However, I do have a question? How would you react to one of us who have fallen? His foray into darkness was intentional but he now seeks reprieve. Under what circumstances would he get it?

*** From his place at the table, Mathetais had been watching these various encounters with a subtle smile on his face. The half-human/half-elf (maybe even drow!?!) wizard speaking to a new paladin. A great Lord telling of choices. A noble warrior who shuns the "benefits" of the order so that he can serve . . . These sights warm his heart and remind him why he enlisted in the CAUSE in the first place.

    "REDEMPTION.

"Is there anything our souls desire more than redemption? Is there any quest more necessary, any journey more worthwhile?

Let me tell you a story, and perhaps you can see how it is given, and to whom.

Once upon a time, there was a young man named Jacob, with the world at his feet. A merchant, he had gained considerable wealth and a vast reputation in the lands of Amn. His only other love was a young woman whom he intended to marry.

One evening the two were traveling to a court dinner when they were set upon by a group of 4 rouges. They held a knife to the woman's throat and demanded the merchant's gold. The merchant hesitated, in panic and confusion, and stepped forward to explain that he didn't carry much with him but that he could go get more. The rouge took his feeble step forward as a threat, and slit the young woman's throat. He then rushed Jacob who fell to the ground screaming, begging for his life.

The dawn found him lying in the same spot, the blood of his love around him, and his impotent hands grasping a few gold coins.

Still coated with blood, he marched to a place he had never been before, the Copper Cornet. With a box of gold he hired a group of 10 mercenaries. With Jacob riding lead, these thugs thundered across the countryside, uncovering groups of thieves and reaping vengeance. By the year's end, Jacob had claimed the life of dozens of men, all guilty by association - their throats cut in the darkness by "the Blade of VENGENCE."

Jacob and his mercenaries grew confident (and rich from the thieves plunder). Soon, killing thieves for their gold was no longer enough. They turned to raiding villages and plundering temples.

On one such occasion, they were raiding a temple of Lathander and Jacob became separated from his group. He found himself captured by the high priest, a cleric with incredible strength and wisdom. The priest subdued Jacob and tried to reason with him. Jacob attempted to escape, and in the struggle, the Priest was fatally wounded.

Looking down at the bloody body of a holy man, Jacob's soul finally snapped. He fell on his knees screaming, begging that some ONE, or some THING would forgive him and help him fix this mess. In desperation, he stretched his hands out to the priest's broken body, and was flooded with light. With his touch came healing, and the priest slowly rose to his feet.

That began a new life and a new identity. He was no longer the selfish trickster, looking to trip up the world for his own gain (Jacob). He was now a student of Holiness, and a servant to the cause. He was a disciple, which in the old tongue is pronounced "Mathetais".

There is Redemption, because there Is a God, and although He is Just, He is also loving.

I now live my life with one prayer of reassurance. "Lord, you have made us for yourself, and our hearts are restless until they rest in Thee."

Forgive the length of my tale, but this is my passion - to help all others feel the security of forgiveness like I have."

A young man walks in. His hair is unkempt, his face unshaven, and his cheap armour is battered and dented. Some onlookers mutter to each other about his dishevelled appearance. He sets his buckled shield on the ground by the foot of the table and kneels upon it. He holds his sword before him, blade downwards and bows his head. "Milords," he says, " My name is Bedivere, and many call me Sir, but in truth I have done little to deserve that title."
"Well met, Bedivere," says Dargon, " I trust you are a paldin bold. What tale of honour have you for us?"
"Nay, Lord Dargon," says Bedivere, " I have no tales of honour, for I am little more than a whelp, just left Candlekeep, it will be long before my strength and skill match my burning desire to crush evil. I come not to tell tales, but to seek counsel. As my strength is poor, I oft come across foes I cannot defeat in righteous battle. To fight would be to cast away the lives of my companions, but to run or seek a cowardly advantage is deep dishonour. Also I have used underhand tactics to survive battle before. How can I make amends and redeem my honour? I also seek counsel on two other matters. I wish Ajantis to join my party, but do not know whom I should let go out of Khalid, Jaheira, Imoen, Garrick and Xan. Likely it shall be Garrick or Xan as I have past connections to the other three. Furthermore, I know that Paladins as powerful as you specialise in "Kits". How would you recommend me to specialise?"

The Great man stands and looks around the hall.
We have many Mages and many Bards in this hall young knight. But i will be honest. If you wish to take on Ajantis then i would ask Garrick to leave. His skills are weak though his heart is in the right place. You will need a mage in your party for the great battles tht you are *sure* to face.(young Bedivere can't help but notice the tone of his voice, it seems as though the great knight knows more about him than he would think).
As for your 'kit' child i would suggest that you hone your skills as i have. To become an undead hunter is the most dangerous of the proffesions but not without its advantages. I have become immune to the draining of my skills and am also resistant to being paralysed.
Considering the plague of non-dead in Amn recently you would do well to train in this proffesion.
But for now i see that you seem a little 'tired' and let it be known that you and your friends are welcome to stay in these halls until you are fully restored.

For the rest of you, continue with your merryments as later we shall be expecting the presence of my dear friend from long ago. A young mage who has much too many experiences for his age. Indeed he is like me!
With this he sits and the feast continues.

In through a shadowed door, enters a cloaked figure, dressed in black, from head to foot, with only a silver star showing on a pendant he wears around his neck, and the silver trim of his hood. he carries a staff of changing hue, from blue to gold, as it moves. He says nothing, but his mere presence dampens all speech. He then pushes back his hood, his hands are adorned with two rings of exact symetery, both glowing fiecely sappahire in each facet. His hood falls back, and he steps forward.

As he eneters the light his face is lightly tanned, and young, about 25 years of age, with a shaped light brown beard, all notice his piecing pearl grey eyes, that unsettle even the most pure of souls present. In a quiet but clear voice he sounds, i am Aranath Tylaedras, i studied in waterdeep, u will have need of a person versed in the arts of the magi soon, iam he.

Sir Dargorn had already stood up when the Invoker had entered. His eyes survey the room.
Once more the reaction has been to his likeing. "This will keep the townsfolk gossiping for weeks" he chuckles to himself.
The audience still staring at the Mage's fine robes and rather 'threatening' appearence.
Many of them jumped when the hearty deep laugh of the giant Sir Dargorn shook the ground. The Paladin dwarfed the wizard by almost a foot but in his great robes he looked no less powerfull.
The young Mage also breaks into laughter and the two men embrace.

By the Gods Aranath! You have scared my hall in too silence! Not ever one for the quiet entrance eh?!
The audence begin to exchange glances but the Paladins sit smugg in the knowledge of what is happening.
Carry on with the merriments! cries Sir Dargorn. He beckons Aranath to sit with him.

I to recommend that Sir (iron beard) specialize in the undead hunter. Considering that the abilities that myself and Sir Dargorn have assumed are... more than formidable against the many non-living in amn. He has already explained the advantages, but in all reality, i also express the same feeling toward our most noble of professions.

THe Nobleman blows out all the air of his lounges, then picks up a hankerchief spun from silverthreads from his pocket and pads it a few times on his forehead. He takes a new breath of air and thinks "finally I am not disturbed at every turn.

He rushes out and returns in a minute. He returns with an old and small oak desk, yet carved with elegant figures of ancient tales. He places it by the door and rushes of again. Noone seems to notice his preculiar behavior.

Again a minute later he return with a great book, a pen and ink. "we must have a guest book" the Nobleman thinks. "Some desency and order" Yes, YES! he speaks out. ALmost too loud for him to like. caught in excitement he continues across the room looking for a bowl for the Paladins to pay their tithe. Oh dear this magnificent place must be kept running....

Bedivere looks up at Sir Dargorn. "I thank you milord, for your wise counsel he says, but I have yet more to ask of your wisdom, if I may, " then he trembles, as if overcome with emotion, and suddenly drops his head into his hands and lets his notched sword clatter to the floor, "Alas," he cries, "I fear my penance must be great, for I am a ... murderer. The Xvarts .... xvarts....Oft have I slain xvarts on my travels but it was not until now that I saw they had no taint of evil upon them. The blood of innocents is on my hands. I-I-I have failed my companions in combat before, and... and all would be dead were it not for the services of the temples. Alas for my honour, alas. For not only have I slain xvarts, and allowed my companions to be slain through my weakness, but when I found combats too hard for me, like a coward I did bid Xan cast sleep on the monsters and kill them while they slept. How should I make penance milord?"

  20. Avooch Dar Guest

Sir Dargorn seems surprisingly unaffected by this question. He wispers to Aranath and they agree on something though the audience cannot hear what. He stays sitting and speaks.
    You have done nothing wrong.
The audience gasps, they cannot believe that such a shinning knight would not damn the killing of innocents.
It is not wrong because they were hostile towards you. I know that you would not kill something that did not attack you first.

Bedivere does not seem satisfied. "But i invaded their territory". He cries.
    Sir Dargorn replies calmly.
"Was their presence on any map you own?"
    "No"
"Then it is not your fault that you stumbled in to their territory. You made no threatening actions towards them though as we all know they will always react violently".
He lets out a small laugh. "What were you going to do, stand there and let them rip you to pieces. My dear fellow i understand your guilt but you have done nothing wrong in the eyes of the gods. It is their fault for attacking you and although it is not something that i do not enjoy i myself have killed many Xvarts in self defence!"

The audience once again seems comfortable with his comments.

"As for letting your comrades die, that is not your fault either. It is their weakness that lets them fail. Not yours".

"Also is your last 'penance' as you so call it. Casting sleep on monsters is not a bad thing. The monsters will only kill you if you don't. I do not see why they should kill innocents and you not kill them in 'dishonarable ways'. Should we leave them to kill others because we cannot be a little 'dishonorable' sometimes".
