Why isn't there a 'good' dwarf in this game?

They're just basing things around Amn being a primarily human city, so naturally there are more human NPCs. I would also like a little more variety, but it does make sense.

Well at least more elves, heck it ain't that far away from that-big-elven-city-that-I-can't-remember-how-to-spell-off-the-top-of-my-head... Not to mention gnomes and halflings are known to travel alot and it says in the manual that Amn is tolerant of half-orcs. Dwarves are probably the only 'odd-race-out' but that's why there should be NPCs that are dwarves. NPCs are naturally adventurers trying to get away from the mundane living of their origional society.

As you said not all people of any race fit into the stereo types. There are good Duergar and (at the expense of being haranged by the more "hardcore D&D players) good Drow :Drizzt. That is why they don't place any race restrictions on alignment. And I agree with both Rastor and Abomination, there should have been more racially colourful NPC's. However if they put all these into the game think of how many extra months or years we would have had to wait for the game.

I dunno, two months tops? Only NPCs that actually have alot of involvement in the plot are Yoshimo, Imoen and Sarevok. The rest add to it only in some small way.

They may not be plot-critical, but joinable NPCs still need banters, interjections, and usually a minor quest of their own. Two months might be a bit optimistic for a turnaround. :)

And all those factors don't take that long. Sure recording a few more banters would probably be the hardest bit (pay the actors). Quest? Have you seen the number of quests in BG:II? Chucking another one in wouldn't be too hard.

As LKD pointed out, we are, as a society LAWFUL GOOD! And we're not greedy -- just thrifty. We share just fine, and are quite charitable, sociopaths like Korgan not withstanding. Can't be a good dwarf? Balderdash!

And, although it's off topic, no self-respecting dwarf would romance that scrawny, beardless Mazzy. Sure she's nice and all, but I just can't get past that smooth face. Yuck!
