ToEE is teh first game to actually implement specialty wizards somewhat right though, since its the only game where you can only memorise spells of the specialised school in teh extra memorisation slots (as per the Ruleset all the way from 2nd edition to 3.5 edition.) So yes, following the rules in this case makes specialist wizard weaker than usual. Once again this also makes teh Diviner a more common selection, since it is the only Specialist (in 3.5 edition) that loose only 1 spell school. Also if looking at other games such as Baldurs Gate, people picked specialist wizards, not becose of what school they specialised in, but bcose of wich spellschools they lost. so i think the 3.5E with selecting oposed schools is a good idea, but yes, 2 schools is a heavy loss. Especially in a CRPG.

Personally, I like sorcerors better, for two reasons. One has already been said (the abilty to cast spontaneously, therfore eliminating the need to worry about preparing for different situations), but the second is simply the shere numerical difference. Last I checked, sorcerers get two more spells than wizards per day.

On top of that, a sorcerer, having high Charisma, can become your party "frontman" (person who knows all the diplomacy/bluff/gather info/etc type skills) very easily. Wizards, with their high Intelligence, get a lot of skill points but not much else as far as bonuses like that.

Besides, I found that if I delegated different sets of skills to different party members based on their class skills, I could pretty much cover every skill I needed without a wizard or rogue.

First of all, Cleric is the one with Raise Dead and Ressurect. And Ressurect is a much higher level spell, and is not available in this game. So you are probablly thinking about Raise Dead. Druids only get access to Reincarnate (per pen and paper rules). And unless my memory meses up at the moment, Reincarnate is not in the game. So you need a Cleric to be able to use the "Raise Dead" spell, which is the only "put player back to life" spell in the game. It cost you 5000 gold to cast the spell (automatically reduced from your gold deposit if you have enough). And you are lucky that they did not add the rule from P&P where your character returns to life with one less level.

Seccond of all, Yes the Sorcerer can waste a feat selection on scribe scrolls, as i have described earlier. And for your convenience i have quoted it below so you can readit again :)

The manual does not list Reincarnate or Raise dead, but they might have changed that after they printed the manual. Raise dead shoudl be 5th level, and Reincrnate 4th so sounds about right. Considering its simply to long since i played the game, the rulebooks specify that Reincarnate brings you back to life as a random animal or humanoid. I asume they just made it a cheap Raise Dead ? (raised with 1 hitpoint, and loose 1 level?).

thank u raptor i'am pretty sure u dont lose a level but u do come back as a random race but most of the time ul come back as the same race(also most life giving spells I usally use out of combat)you also don't come back with just one heath like when my wizard died just last night I used reancarnate to bring him back up to about seven health(his total heath is a sad total of nine though)

From my standpoint I found Magic users were hard to get along with at first.

I tried both wiz and sorc in the same party. My results were that earlier on the wizard was a better choice, but as i progressed I found the Sorcerer seemed to develop quite nicely.

my wizard's weakness is probably due to my inability to read scrolls

@ Dadseimaj - Do you mean you can't scribe scrolls to your spellbook? The process is a bit complicated: You need to first cast read magic or identify on the scroll if neccesary, then using the radial menu, you can attempt to copy the scroll to your spellbook. This is based on the Spellcraft skill level of your wizard, and if you fail the skill check, you can't try again until you level up (and maybe only if you raise the skill level, I'm not sure on that.) Since wizards get tons of skill points (high INT) and have only 2 class skills, I always make sure to keep Spellcraft at maximum - it's not like wizards have much else to spend points on.

Bonus for Wizard, all the Craft feats requires various spells etc,and wizard can just get more of them. so he is better able to craft. Mainly what i used my winzard for in last game.

That's exactly what I mean. I don't seem to have got the hang of converting a scroll into a spell. I have maxed up on spellcraft for all of my magic users.

Are you following the process described above? Give me an example of what your problem is - it may be a bug, or it may be "operator error" (j/k) :)
