Yeah, I know it can be tricky. That's why I referenced out neighbouring city Calgary -- they are in fact bigger than we are but we've had around 20 more homicides so far this year. Right now we are on 28 of them.

I don't know that that's somehow wrong or inaccurate. If you lived in a peaceable small town of 200 that happened to have a murder one year, that wouldn't mean that you were living in the most dangerous town in America, for example. I don't know exactly what the FBI rationale for doing that is, but I'm sure there is one.

Anyway, Here are the FBI crime stats for 2010 in the US:

    http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/crime-in-the-u.s/2010/preliminary-annual-ucr-jan-dec-2010

Aldeth, you're number 8 in Baltimore according to this condensed list:

LKD, don't feel bad. If Edmonton has a population of around 730,000, your 28 murders don't rate very high when compared to the US. :)

OK, if in the first six months of 2011 we have 28 murders, and the next 6 months are just as bad, then we'll have had 56 murders by year's end. Now, let's scale that back to 50. How would it stack up to a US city of similar size then?

    Oh, for the record:

    for what it's worth.

Let's see ... at a glance, you would be similar to the death-filled streets of Charlotte, NC. ;), significantly less dangerous than Jacksonville, FL (home of the nation's retirees), and far less dangerous than AtFI's home town, which has 100,000 fewer residents than you but five times as many murders.

Also bear in mind that you only had 27 murders in total last year, so while I don't know the figures from years earlier, I suspect (based largely on the tone of the article you linked) that that's moreso the norm. And if you count Edmonton as having a population of 1 million plus, the numbers are only more favorable. Cheer up!

Acid throwing is most definately not an Islam thing, it is a thing of the Indian sub-continent, muslim, hindu, sikh or even buddhist I would reckon. Heck, wouldnt surprise me if it occurred even among they quite plentyful christians around there. If your woman is acting up or in any way displeasing you throw acid in her face. That teaches her a lesson. Aren't we men wonderful?

Actually, it happened here a few years ago. The victim was a reporter, and the perpetrator had iirc no relation to her.
