    The European players do seem to place a high importance on playing for their national teams. But like I said, I'm only talking about the American players.

    USA is just one country that doesn't seem as interested in international sport as most other countries. No idea why.

    Consider the size of the US. The US has 3/5 the population of Europe, and twice the size. The vast majority of trade and travel occurs with the country. When you are so large, there's simply no need to worry about the rest of the world, sports wise. You can get high enough levels of competition within your own boarders.

    Those are all sports where the American league IS the highest level of the sport though. Even non-Americans would value an American league medal over an international one.

    I'm sure Merlanni meant in relation to the traditional Olympic games like track and field or swimming. I'm sure an American would regard the Olympics as the pinnacle in those sports.

    Actually, an Olympic gold in football isn't very highly regarded either. Most of the best players aren't even allowed to play. Brazil are keen to win it as it's the one trophy they've never won but that's about the extent of it.

    I still have a bad taste with France having qualified. :p
    If the Dutch don't win it, I hope it will be a country that I like that did't qualify in the first place. Like EC '92. :D
