Wow, Female PCs really get the heel in the romance department

    Having romances actually helps increase the "magical realism" of the game. If you're continously entrusting your life to a member of the other gender it becames only natural that you would develop strong feelings for that person.

    We can go with the stereotypical example where said male Paladin rescues said female PC who gets D4 or D6 on level up from life threatening encounter, it's only natural for her to start developing feelings for him. An RPG should never cut out the life aspects of adventuring, it isn't just one quest to the next after (as in theory the more you "live" your PC the better).

    Being one of the females who plays BG II I would like to say that:

    First: I have never played for the sake of the romances. I play for the adventure.

    Second: When I did find that if playing a female character the only romance availabe was with a wimpy, whiny character I was pissed off. Prine is right if they only put in one romance for females at least make it someone a woman could relate too.

    @ Nakia ... You're sooOoOoOo right! This game is all about the adventure! Romances are just little add-ins that you could consider as 'side-quests'. Although the male romances are fun, I guess it's safe to say that the female ones are sh!t. But hey, doesn't mean I'm going to take a romance as a gurl though! :D

    We don't call him "Annoyman" for nothing. Have they made any big protector/guardian type male romanceables? I mean Kelsey was a very good mod, but he's a bit of a wimp, the 'merchant-sorcerer'... Mixing magic and accounting - way to go! I'd figure women would prefer a stern, rugged pure fighter type to fall head over heels for or maybe a Paladin who will marry before doing the bad thing or some such.

    Annoyman was a pathetic romance for females, a priest of Helm and a warrior to boot shouldn't be so... so... whiney and such a cry-baby. He should be more "I smite thee, Evil!", "I'm confident in my manhood!", "Look at my muscles!" and "I'll protect you, fair maiden!".

    I agree that Anomen is really crap, but I also heard some girl players actually loving him. :eek: Yes even Anomen has his own fans!

    Maybe his rather..different and 'unique' personality is worth mentioning, he is not the usual male sterotype character that Abomination suggested, he is unique with his own conflicts and dillemmas; and this gives a chance to ladies to clear his confusion and actually help him.

    Now that I think of it, all original romance NPCs have deep conflicts and troubles.

    Jaheira-loses her husband and eventually will be put against her own kin.

    Viccy-Trying to adjust the surface as a renegade dark-elf, she is also deeply confused and tries to mask her feelings with her b**** attitude.

    Aerie-Very traumatic, having been lost her wings and people, the nightmares of the tortures she endured, and she now tries to adjust living 'On' the ground.

    See, all romance people need someone to help them, is it part of the concept? :confused:

    Yes, everybody has a typical RPG character "troubled past". It's just that Anomen's is quite lame (rich boy with a drunken bastard for a father, cry me a bloody river), and he's such a jackass when you meet him that I'm hardly surprised people find him too repulsive to put up with. But, then, I also wonder how people can stand Aerie, who I find even more annoying than Anomen. GROW A PAIR, YOU STUPID WIMP.

    Hey but Aerie is a girl, she can be wimpy and cry a lot, some guys love that sort of women you know? Though some prefer cool and strong and confident chicks like good old Jaheira. :shake: Yeah!

    But when a guy supposed to be tough and sturdy like (Anomen) does that, I think it should piss most ladies off? :confused:

    Were I a woman I'd have to say my ideal BG romance would be with a charismatic bard/thief type, perhaps along the lines of Haer'Dalis or a half-elven rogue. Edwin is interesting; though not a melee brawler a powerful magic-user is certainly a "capable protector" if that is indeed what a woman PC wishes for in a romance. Aran Linvail would be another interesting romance concept.

    I actually have really enjoyed playing female characters in the game, and a romance with a man not only adds serious depth but provides a reason for actually playing a woman character--if not for such distinctions in the game, the gender of the PC would be practically moot.

    Aran Linvail would also be a good character to have in the party as well! Anyone have any ideas ...

    Aran's too high up on the chain of command to be putzing around with a pathetic little group of adventurers. :p ;) But if you do want someone from the organization, the Fade NPC mod might work. Although she's a female tiefling who romances males, so here's another heel for y'all! :smash:

    Here goes my two cent opinion.

    Role playing a woman who is an adventurer I would want a man who was my equal. He wouldn't be my protector. If I wanted a protector I'd stay home and be a housewife, not go out adventuring. We would protect each other. We would fight glorious battles, tell each other how great we were and ...pull the shades. My ideal romance is Sarevok which is a no-no even in fantasy land.

    Nope. Check the forum if you don't believe me. (I believe there was something about sleeping with him too quick would make him unredeemable but still romanceable, which sounds like just your cup of tea, Ara. ;) )

    Since I'm planning a neutral evil character for my next trip through it would suit me fine too. Who want's to redeem him? With my male character Saravok was pushing for godhood with him as Prime Minister. :)

    Believe me if they write the mod correctly he'll settle for consort of a goddess and nothing less.

    I wonder what they're thinking with the Sarevok romance mod. I've always felt TOB is way too short, and I think this is definitely true in the realm of romances.

    *sigh* Someone needs to make a good, large expansion mod to TOB to make it rival SOA in size. I want more gameplay, dammit! :(

    Wouldn't romancing Sarevok or Imoen be akin to incest for the main character?

    @Zenastin:
    Hell no. ToB is big enough as it is; I don't want any more uber-badguys to fight. It'd be nice if there were a few more neutral areas and actual RPing, though...

    @Zamiel:
    Well, if you want to get all technical... :p ;)
    You know, I've got a few thoughts on this, and I think maybe this deserves its own thread. :outta:
