    10. American music is so much more palatable when it comes from England.
    11. England has the world's coolest flag.

    But enough with the nice.

    You know what country sucks? Belgium! It was canvassed earlier but, other than the serious drawback of its beautiful women, I then had no opinion at all about Belgium. It was beneath my notice. But heed, and wonder how any country could suck so...

    The French (who otherwise suck -- this is the only cool thing they ever did) built this marvelous wall of bunkers and artillery installations after WWI, the Maginot Line, to keep Germany out of France once and for all. Belgium agreed to extend it across its border with Germany. But what did they do, the lames? WWII starts, Germany starts getting unpleasantly German -- boom, Belgium declares itself neutral, refuses to build its part, and lets the Germans bypass the Line and walk into France.

    The Congo, where "Heart of Darkness" was set, was supposed to be the personal property of the King of Belgium, who hired overseers to cut an arm off of any native disinclined to work in the rubber harvest. There is a picture of this huge pile of... arms.
