Irish - but I am descended from them, so I guess it doesn't really count. Most english folk seem to be pretty nice folk as well, except for the chavs.

I've only really visited America than any other country and no-one seemed to have a bad word to say - to me at least ;)

DANGIT; everyone wants to make me CHOOSE!?! :bang:

    {fifteen minutes later}

I can't do it - it's like saying "which food do you like more: a rootbeer float, a big plate of homemade lasagna, a warm chocolate fudge brownie, or hot bowl of tomato soup with some toast to dunk?"

I LIKE THEM ALL FOR VERY DIFFERENT REASONS!!! aaaaaaagghghghgh

    >BAM<

Okay, now that I've had a stroke, ;) let's continue"

The whole 'UK vs Brit/Eire/Scot/Welsh' thing brings to mind that many nations have very different PEOPLES within their borders - America and Canada being other prime examples...

ugh. The list stretches on in my mind - when it comes right down to it; I don't like/dislike people based on their ethic background - I judge people individually on their behaviour.

E.G. I don't like John Cleese because he's an ENGLISH comedian, I like him because he's an English COMEDIAN. I don't hate Pat Buchanan because he's an AMERICAN jerk, but because he's an American JERK! :)

So I'd have to cop out like Feli did and say HUMANS :p

I'm gonna go drain this subdural hematoma now...

:flaming: How DARE you suggest I like humans! I HATE humans! They're [censored for the humor impaired]!!!

I may be able to stand an individual person, but people just suck.

I second that. :) Crisps and bread works.

I'd say the greatest country, after my own, is Hong Kong. Or at least it was when it was under British rule. I haven't been back since it changed hands. We have rich friends out there, so we saw the "good bits", including all-you-can-eat buffets on the tops of skyscrapers. Best holiday ever.

Canada, followed closely by Australia, England, and Scotland.

Getting out of the English-speaking world, I'd pick Switzerland, Denmark, and Finland (yes, the latter two are a direct result of there being so many SPers from those two countries. I'll let you draw your own conclusions. :D )

Germans, my sympathy for them originates from football, I've always admired their "fight 'till the end" spirit.

Like most other Americans here, I'd have to go with the Canadians and the English. But I'd also put in a good word for Poland. My high school sweetheart's family was from Poland. They all spoke Polish around the house and they had very large family get-togethers, to which I was often invited and they were always a blast. They were hard-drinking, fun-loving people and great to be around.

Dutch - I suppose - similar to English Culture with a bit of madness thrown in. Other than than other English speaking countries I quite like the portugese and Spanish - some of them don't like the brits because of a questionable reputation abroad but treat them with respect and you mostly you'll get it returned twice fold in return.

Australia (although that IS the only country in the world in which I have been mugged).

    Closely followed by South Africa.

But I am blown away by how many people have said New Zealand. We're such a small place with only 4m people, I wouldn't have thought there were enough of us to have made much of an impression.

@HB I've been to your country twice, the first time in June to August and the second November to February. Both times I started my journey in Christchurch staying a week or so with the parents of one of my friends, her father came from the Cook Islands and sadly passed away a very short while ago and her mum is english.
From Cristchurch I would wander around the south island first before ending up at Picton to get the ferry to Wellington and then explore the north island ending up at Auckland to fly out.
I went every where by bus and stayed in B&B's I booked at your brilliant tourist boards I went bungee jumping at Queenstown and Hamner Springs,
Jetboating all over the place where it was offered, whale-watching at KaiKora, dolphin watching at Akaroa etc etc and every where I went the people were so friendly and helpful and mad that I just had to like them.
Mind you they thought I was mad because I was there on holiday and not visiting the rellies or anything like that.
I'm hoping after my cricket tour of Australia next year for the ashes that I'll be able to pop over again.

Brazilians I've met have always been nice folk, happy eccentric types. Dutch are cool too, and it's cool that most of them speak English.
I don't like far out Eastern Europeans and Russians, they are really unfriendly, and I don't know what it is, but they always seem to have this unapproachable look about them. They need to smile!

[edit] and I mean not to offend any of the Eastern europeans here :D , it's just that this is how they've appeared to me, when I've encountered them.

That is true. You wont find us smiling in the street to every stranger we meet. For us, smiling is a true display of friendship, and should come out of true sincerity and emotion, not for convenience or false education.
Dont expect that we will oftenly ask people how they are feeling either, because when we do, we do for real, and as such, we only ask for people we do care and are worried about, not artificially, like it is common in other places. The answer is not always mechanically "good" as well.
It is not true we are cold or anything like that though. We are very passionate people. Much more than Northern Europeans I am sure.
We might look rude, and sound sometimes, but after you befriend one of us we are not like that. We are just secretive, that is all.
